QUEENS B'DAY Progress pics.....

Scotty is working his ring off getting customer cars completed But has been doing the odd hours or so to help us get the car ready for the Nats! Lots mroe to go... I personally really like the rear wing support!!!

I like the cage in the first pic. I need something like that when I spend all day on a little job and then stuff it up late in the arvo. Another day down the drain !

Talking Cage!

Hi Rob that cage is my little girls trampoline. which I can put a lock on keeps the kids away from the work shop.
I like to lay on it in summer at night and watch the stars and satalites go over.
and think what i could build next thats faster.
I mounted the rear wing tonight looks better than sitting on a bin.
I hope to have it running in a week or so.

Even my grandmother will be able to drive it.

Yeah, it will work well. Certainly did the job in the Celica.

Sorry mate just taking the piss out of you. Leaving skill out of it, I'm not even sure I would even have the balls to push that car anywhere near it's limits. It's going to be a weapon. Matt are you really ready for it.

Default Clutchless Auto.

Karens Mustang have a fully manualised C4 with a reverse pattern in her car.

It is great to drive, instant shifts with the engine at full noise.

I would probably prefer one in the cobra than the 5 speed.

Craig and Phil, the main reasons for the auto were $'s. Not to mention the auto set up was race proven! Clutches are expensive and boxes costly to replace. With the auto we can swap the valve bodies etc pretty quick and throw in a new auto (from stock) fairly quickly and with limited expense. Although everything costs as we all know. May not be as much fun (?) but for now for me the least amount of things I need to concentrate on the better... We are making this car safe first and quick 2nd. That's what I tell my wife to be anyway!!! It will have more than enough HP, HUGE brakes and great safety to make a good "Fun" package. It's all about maximising fun and cheap easy racing!!!

Now, as the forum is as good a place as any.....let it be well known to all that I am the Novice/Learner to this deal... I certainly make no claims to being anything but a bloke who wants to learn the art of driving fast and safe under Scotts guidance. I will be trying hard but only against myself to become quicker. Scotty certainly has his own goals.... and while lap times will no doubt be very very different, the quest for maximised fun and minimal cost is our joint focus and goal!

Yee haa, bring on the Nats...

P.S. I have to say that throughout the build fibreglassing and sanding has been my main chore.... I am HOPEFUL that the sander will soon be replaced with a spray gun and I won't EVER have to sand a car EVER again......

Yeah, we know why you went auto. A very smart choice for a lot of reasons.

Great news that you are coming to the end of the body work. It will totally transform once you get a coat of paint on it.

Matt,
The C4 in karens car is worth a lot more $$ than the TKO600 in mine.

The C4 will hold more torque, more power and the shifts are rediculously quick.

We are fitting one of the overdrives,

And that will give it a good legs on the freeway.

I am suggesting that an AOD or tricked up C4 would be an upgrade, but yes you are right once installed the running cost would be less than a manual.

Phil, these guys are using the basically throw away stock auto's that come with the Lexus engines. The price is definitely right and I'm suspecting OzVenom has a few said auto's laying around by now. I'm guessing a few mods and they are good to go.

Phil, agreed... But when the auto is existing it certainly makes that selection much easier when it comes to outlaying $'s up front! We'll see how it all goes... I guess the word "development" has not even become an issue at this stage... It will come though.. I'm sure!

I've often thought a well setup Auto would be way better on the track. This was the thinking of some of the Can-Am engineers back in the 60's. I think Jim Hall ran an Auto in one of his Chaparal Can-Am cars. Someone can probably confirm this.

Anyway, my thinking is that with a modern auto using a converter with a sprag you would have very little engine braking. I reckon this is a good thing as you could power right up to your braking mark and then lift and have no engine breaking unsettling the balance of the car. You could then rely on your brakes to do the job they were designed for to pull you up.

With less things to concentrate on going into the corner i.e shifting down working the clutch etc you could maximise you braking and steering by giving it your full attention and then have a better chance of being on the right line going into the corner.
