Default US visits

G'day All

Anyone going near Silver Spring Maryland - Baltimore - Washington in the very near future?

I need to get a potential gearbox checked over there before I commit to an ebay purchase. Its a private sale opportunity.

Any ideas how I could facilitate something like this - assuming there isn't someone going? Do we have any US connections in that area?

Any ideas appreciated.

Cheers

Steve

Dont be a dickbrain, go and buy a new one, which is a known quantity .
And not a half thrashed, half pashed, half crashed, half mashed, half smashed, piece of junk that you are going to take arisk on transporting half way across the phucking world and it jump's out of 2nd gear, of which the previous owner forgot to tell you about. unless you like surprizes.

Yer yer yer was expecting that comment and should have said this is a brand new box never used - the price is too tempting to not consider!

I guess you could organise with the owner of the box to take it into a local workshop and get them to have a look. Problem is they can't tell for sure
what condition the box is in without stripping it.

No I have done that here Mr Bigone, that's why I'm replacing the drag tested T5 that came with my motor.

Fortunately my rebuild now also includes a new clean short block, which means all the main bits in my motor that were also being spun regularly at 10,000rpm will be renewed or replaced. So that I can confidently drive the rebuild at 10,000 rpm!

Anyway have already emailed JBo's suggested forum and we will see if I can get some local help, cause I can't help thinking it is a genuine sale and worth acting on if it is valid.

Cheers

Can get the box here for $150 once it reaches the depot.

Not sure what US freight would be like and I gather you can hit cross border tax issues too. We will see!

It all depends on who the seller chooses to use. UPS and DLI like the $$$. US mail can be good. Summit Racing supply a list of mailing services and the prices. Usually the longer it takes to get here ..the cheaper it is to send.

JT Imports in Pomona, California regularly freight to Thomastown, Victoria.

Ph 03 9 466 4817 in Thomastown and talk to John from JT Imports who will let you know when the next container is Australia bound. Very reasonably priced.

I would also talk to the kit distributors in Australia who are importing cars. They would have space..

Thanks Bernie I'll make the contact anyway but my fellow operates out of Carson not too far away. Was hoping yours was in another State.

Got an airfreight cost indication. Actual freight cost is like $60 but exit, landing, security, fuel surcharge, terminal, documentation, quarantine, yabada yabada type fees another $400 + then there is GST!! I hope the slow boat version is more user friendly!
