Default Knight Rider is back!

Last night we watched the pilot for the new Knight Rider series, which aired in the States back in Feb. The Pontiac Trans Am from the original series has been replaced by a black Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR with ghost stripes and it looks magnificent. Val Kilmer does the car's voice too.

More photos here.

So they've switched from GM to Ford and Hoff has been replaced by a preppy looking bloke who I'm sure is lacking the requisite hairy chest that we loved Hoff so much for. Hoff does make a cameo at the end as the new star's estranged father (dark side reference?) and the theme song is very similar to the original, just with added "doof". I didn't mind the cheesy plot and sappy love scenes because there is plenty of tyre frying and lots of gadgetry on show. And the supercharged V8 sounds awesome.

There's also a scene where the new star attempts to get away from some bad guys before getting the new KITT. He hops into an AC Cobra sitting on a hoist in his garage and as he tries to drive through the garage door the engine blows and the Cobra rolls to a stop, revealing a smashed nose cone. I'm hoping that the car makes an appearance in later episodes, perhaps as a backup for KITT.

For those who are on bittorrent, you can get the show off many of the usual torrent sites. Here's a mininova link.

Here's hoping the show makes it down under!

Paul
