Hope this one turns out to be a joke,

Tropical cyclone DYLAN is going to cross the coast just north of us about 4am friday morning,

Been riding out strong winds and 16ins of rain over the last couple of days

There was a meter high storm surge on top of high tide this morning

Already had a blackout and had to fire up the backup generator

Its pretty wet around here, and i think its going to be a long night.

How did you go Tom? Hope all is well.

Dylan suddenly swung south away from Townsville and increased to a Cat.2. It seemed to hit more around your area and south to Yeppoon.

Nice of the ABC and BOM to keep you updated regularly!

Thanks DON, all ok here,
Turned out a bit of a fizzer, couple of trees got knocked down on our block.
Lots of leaves in the pool etc.
Bom said Cat 1 crossing the coast at 4 to 6am at Ayr, which is a fair bit north than us.
Then at the last moment its a cat 2 and crossed the coast at 3.30 at hideaway bay which is only about 20 to 30 kms north of us.
Dylan turned and ran down the coast late at night, they are so unpredictable.

Been through more than a half dozen cyclones now so we prepared well.

I built my house and shed myself only 3 years ago and i went overboard on specs and tiedowns, if my place goes, there will be nothing left of Airlie Beach.

Had a "fun" last 24 hours.
I delivered an ambulance out bush on Thursday, got to Fregon and felt a little "off"
So I found my house for the night and had a lie down.
Woke up about 8.30 still not feeling flash, but hadn't eaten all day so I cooked my dinner and had that.
Hmm, I don't think I should have eaten that chicken, spent most of the night either sitting on the ****ter or face first in it.
Fluids coming out from both ends....
Made my way to the clinic to swap cars at about 9.30am, the nurse looked at me and said "you feeling ok?"
So they did some tests, blood pressure was through the roof (240/140).
Plugged me into the ECG machine and checked me out. Heart seems fine.
I had a lower reading of 190/130 in left side so then there was concerns of a blocked artery.
Took blood and urine samples, came up all good.
Gave me a tablet to lower blood pressure otherwise I would be on the RFDS plane.
Waited an hour and pressure down to 184/104 (still high but a lot better).
A nurse was due to catch the bus into Alice today (Saturday), this was all happening on Friday. So she knocked off half a day early and drove me back to Alice.
Seen a doc this morning, on tablets now and checking and recording my pressure every 6 hours or so, just to get a bit of a background rhythm on what s doing.
Looks like this fat bastard had better start eating better.

Not to be alarmist or anything Box but those BP figures are bloody scary. My bloke throws a wobbly if I go over 140/90. He reckons 130/80 is the go for an old bloke my age.
How's the hospital in Alice?
Would it be worth a trip down to Adelaide to get checked out properly?
In the meantime ask your man about Abisart HCT 300/25 (Irbesartan with HCT)).
Take care mate. We need you around for our next Goodwood trip!

Best wishes Box...

I'm tipping your docs are all over this but here's my 2cent tips to help lower your BP.

1 - drink plenty of water.
Helps to pee out many of the salts that might be elevating that BP.

2 - ease up on the caffeine, sugars and salts.
Combined with no.1 above, should help to get things normalized.

3 - Go fishing and eat what you catch.
No, seriously... Sun's vitamin D will help, as will the omega3 in fish.
Plus the light exercise will do wonders for your state of well being.

PS. Fine print: I'm NOT a medical Doc, but I do have a major in human physiology.

Can happily report blood pressure is down to 129/91. I feel so much better.
Eating a lot better, only 1 flat white on skim milk coffee per day now.
No pre packaged processed food.
Eating 3 pieces of fruit per day.
I feel so much better and have a lot more energy to get things done.
Even spent the weekend in the shed (42 degrees in shade) with the swampy air con on, just move it to where I was working.
Shed is mostly all cleaned up, Not sure if I mentioned yet, but had some good buying on Friday.
A workshop was closing down, bought a 4 tonne 4 post hoist, trolley stand (hydraulic lifting) for gearboxs etc (suitable for troop carriers and light trucks) 4 metre steel work bench with solid steel top (3mm thick) and a 20 tonne air/hydraulic press.
Seller is delivering it all this week.

That's wonderful news Dave. Congratulations.
I'm very happy to hear that you're on the road to recovery.
Just goes to show that we could all do with a wake up call occasionally.
Stick with the new healthy lifestyle!!

Nice pick-up on the workshop stuff too.

Ditto from me too Dave. Keep well.

While we are on health issues, I might as well tell you about my problems. I've got to go under the knife shortly myself. I'm getting two new competition high performance valves installed in the old tick tock. Not that keen on having it done either. I know what to expect as I had open heart about 25 years ago. No driving cars, lifting weighty objects and no golf for three months.

On that occasion, I split my aorta internally when a truck came through a give way sign and wiped me off my motor cycle. I was hospitalised for 8 months with the heart problem, broken sternum, five broken bones in my spine, fractured right shoulder and severely injured both knees.

Since then I have had two full knee replacements, the veins stripped out of my right leg and a full right shoulder replacement.

I've got around $110,000 worth of titanium in me at the moment. If I'm involved in a major air crash, the chances are that I will be the only survivor as I'm made out of the same material as the 'Black Box'.

Other than that, I'm pretty healthy. My B.P. is 110/60 and my Cholesterol is 3.1.

My sister had new heart valves a few years ago. Following the operation, she spent 5 weeks in Intensive Care before passing away. You can see why I'm so apprehensive.

The problem must be generic as another of my sisters had valve replacement surgery and is still going at 85 so my odds are about even money.

I see my cardiologist on the 20th of February, in a couple of weeks time.

Good to hear things are on the up and up for you, I just got the results from my last MRI and there was good news and a little bad news, good news is the tumor is still the same the bad is that I've had a small bleed on the brain but that comes with a silver lining they have reduced those NASTY Clexane injections from 2 to 1 you gotta love that
