Les,
Looks like Lakeside is a goer - I'm building a Tolling Gantry there as part of the automated tolling Project due to be up and running in Brisbane next year.
The Lakeside will be used as a Test Site for data, but it's very likely that the Gantry will then be adopted for future race meets. Plus I hear the track is to be widened (certainly on the finishing straight)
At around $1 Million for the gantry and infrastructure its not cheap unless of course some one else is paying for it!

Pete, they have been running regular sprint events since about April.
The only restrictions being noise but I'm told any road registered car will pass with room to spare.
It is a glorious track but last I saw all the infrastructure needed heaps of attention. (armco, tower etc.)
Having said that, There appears to be a huge demand for it to be bought into full service. Maybe it's a nostalgic attraction, maybe because it is so close to Brisbane, who knows.

I understand the owner of Lakeside is the same as Queensland Raceway.
Maybe the V8's are going to end up in your back yard
In regards to the infrastructure at least the flag waver will have a gantry to stand on by the end of the year

Pete, You are correct, the operator of Lakeside is one John Tetley, also the CEO of Queensland Raceway.
Nope, I doubt we will see a return of the V8's to Lakeside. That will be the exclusive money spinner for QR. Lakeside will be more club type events with maybe a couple of annual events like the muted endurance event. Maybe we will see a Queensland 500 sometime in the future which will incorporate the V8's.
As to it being in my backyard, all I have to say is that it worries us Northsiders. Until now the gateway bridge has remained a sorta pseudo immigration barrier to Southsiders crossing the creek. With the duplication of the Gateway and now lakeside being ramped up then more and more swamp dwellers will venture Northwards.
As to the security of the flag waver ...If I were he and knew exactly who had input into the gantry I'd be afraid .... very afraid.

Thanks for the invite...
Bernie,
Thanks for the invite in the Texas Forum.
With Jay N, John Ross, Kristen and others of the old Texas crowd being good friends of mine, I feel welcome to answer your invite.
Just wanted to tell you mates about something the wife said out of the blue yesterday. She said, "... if Obama wins, we should move to Australia." As a sidelight, she did not know that there are more cobras per capita there than here in the states.
