Default Headlights

Does anyone know of a hallogen or semi sealed 7" headlight that has the park light or clear spot for external bulb and has the domed face. I can only find sealed beams and was hoping someone knew of a domed face halogen, getting help from the parts shops in this town can be more painfull than having teeth pulled without anesthitic. What are the majority using and where do you source them?

I dont know of any halogen lights with the domed face (I would like some) but I do think the Lucas tripod style light has the domed face, and think they are a halogen type (but are not E approved for rego in Australia)

I've got the P700 tripod lights from Anthony at Classic and Vintage Bulbs. Great looking lights with a hole for the park light in the back.

Just remeber they are not E marked so you won't be able to fit them for engineering.

Cheers

I used Hella and mine has a hallogen bulb and is ok for compliance (i started off caring about that stuff)

Narva also has a similar product usually at a lower price

Both companies have chrome rings to suit the headlights and both have online catalogues - I jotted down the part # and went to the local Burson's and they called me back in a couple of days with the bits.

LoBelly, if your headlights are the same Hella ones as mine then they are the flat lens.
I think Ed is looking for the rounded lens (domed).
As I said, I dont know of any E approved domed lights.
I planned on getting the tripods (P700) after rego.

Snakebite (Don Pilling) also has a range of curved face headlight sealed beam units:

Hi ED
I have the Narva 72036 lenses which are dome faced and take both a park light and a commodore style head lamp Narva plus 50 P/N 48872BL2.
I have a Wipac S5400 mounting kit which bolts to the body and forms the base of the assy which the lense bolts into. I got the whole set up of Ian at Classic Revival.

Problem solved HLT02 from Snakebite so as soon as he gets them in I will be able to see a bit more where im going. Alfie the Narva 72036 is a very flat dome and was the same as I already have.
Thanks to all for the help

Well how hard was that, Needed to get a lens for the rear and seeing as they are from an early Mini google mini spares and find the glass lens and trim rings turn another page and there they are http://www.minisport.com.au/prod983.htm $65.00 for a pair in stock and ready to ship. There is probably a huge amount of stuff from the minis that could be sourced for very resonable prices that would suit the Cobra seeing as they are both pommy

I got a lot of my stuff here. Being a UK supplier they sell most of the Lucas parts a lot cheaper than elsewhere. It depends on the current exchange rate of course.

Just be aware that the trim rings vary in size. Mini trim rings are larger in diameter than the MGB rings most Cobra replicas use. That being said there are a few bodies out there that are made to suit the larger mini trim rings. Check yours before you spend your $$$ on them.

Cheers

Thanks for that but as it stands I ordered a new glass red lens and then when I checked and put all the lenses together guess what its an amber lens that I need so serves me right for going like a bull at a gate and not checking. Oh well at least I might have a spare.

CObraed,

Please be warned those small glass type rear tail lamps are very difficult to see by cars behind you. I have followed a few Cobras with them and particularly at dusk, I couldn't see their brake lights activate.

I know you've already spent the money, but the Lucas L91/L92 or even the Landrover type (shudder) are clearly brighter.

For a Classic Glass you will need MGB head lamp rings as Mini have a larger dia rear flange. (you probably already know this)

At the moment I just want to get this thing on the road and when it is time to put some new paint on it I will be fitting new tail lights but the back end will need some modifications before that can happen. I already have the trim rings just waiting on the lights to turn up.
