Slot Cars
Hi All,
I bought a Scalextric slot car set on Friday night whilst waiting for my wife to finish work.
My daughter loves playing Mario Karts on her Nintendo DS so I thought it would be something she would enjoy. I had a crappy slot car set as a kid that never worked properly so It was a present for both of us.
We had a ball all weekend racing each other. She's a pretty good driver and was regularly beating me after getting the hang of it.
I reckon it was money well spent for a fun family activity. Even my wife was keen to have a go.
Cheers

Have been keen to get one of the new digital sets where up to six cars can race at once and you can change lanes and pass, do pit stops etc but they start at about $500.00 so maybe at christmas time if the fat man in the red suit is nice

Hey Mike, I have two girls and a while back dragged out my old set from when I was a kid. They had a ball with it.
It's not Scalextric but it was a four lane which splits into 2 x 2 lanes and 6 volt, so you can't use Scalextric cars.
I have most of the makings now for a large scalextric track, just got to convince the girls that would be better in the rumpus than their girly stuff.

The set I got was just a basic one. I didn't want to spend too much in case she didn't like it. The set is an extended figure 8 and turned out larger than I thought.
It came with 2x GT40's. A MK1 in Gulf colours and a MK2 in Red. Amazingly detailed and almost too nice to race but I figure toys are made to be played with. They are a bit worse for wear now after a couple of days of thrashing and crashing.
I was looking on the web and there is an amazing range of accessories and cars. It looks like the cars from other manufacturers will work on this track too.
That Cobra is amazing Wazza. I might have to pop down the hobby shop at lunch.

Mike,
Nearly all 1:32nd slotcars will work on a scalextric track. There's plenty available; SCX, Carrera, Revell, Ninco,Fly, MRRC. Search - Slot Shop or Red Racer.
I have one like Wazza's Cobra - MRRC, Ninco also does a Cobra.
Revell does some good Yankee Muscle, I have a really nice Shelby GT350.
