Recommended trolley jack
My el cheapo trolley jack I've had for a long time finally died, and with the rebuild and general use need in the garage I have to replace it.
Want to get a well built decent jack this time, what can peple recommend?
Would like to get a low access model for the cobra but with 2T+ lift capacity for the family cars if needed and am happy to look at alloy versions too.
What can you guys suggest?
Cheers

Most of the aluminum trolley jacks are only rated to 1Ton. I bought one recently and its great for the cobra. One Ton will probably be plenty for a family car. You are only lifting one end at a time.
Cheers

So whose jack did you buy Mike?
Googled trolley jack and found a few good options including something from Hare and Forbes alloy 1T 90 - 450mm lift $330 or a steel low access version capable of 2T and 510mm lift.
Car4jim, trolley, floor, bottle, slide, scissor - doesn't too much matter what you call the jack, so long as it lifts the car - eh??

I bought the Hare and Forbes jack. The thing I liked about it was it has a 2 stage pump for the quick lift action. Many of the aloy quick lifts use a single larger pump and a longer handle for the extra leverage.
Cheers

Slowy, I bought an aluminium jack off eBay for around $300. It's low profile, double piston, etc. eBay only shows max 60 days of shopping history now so I don't have the link, but a quick search revealed literally dozens. Mine's made in China but shipped out of Sydney or Newcastle I think.
It's similar to this but has individual castors at the front and seems a bit longer.
Cheers

Thanks Mike but I actually found the place in my travels so dropped in and looked at that trolley and a steel variant.
the ali trolley manages 90 - 500mm odd travel for 1T and the steel is 110 - 450mm for 2T and about $100 less cost.
Given it is just for the workshop, and I'm used to a steel jobby, I think I'll end up with the steel one and no worries about lift capacity.
Thanks for the details anyway.
Cheers

I've got a 2.5 ton all steel trolley jack as well but it's bloody heavy. I got tired of lifting it in and out of the back of the Land Rover. The last thing I need is to do my back in again.
Cheers

Here's the next one I'll purchase. Price is right, and the 2 3/4" minimum height is much needed for my car.

I'd have been far happier if I could source an ali jack of about 1.5 T capacity.
Anyone sighted one rated to that sort of load about?
Do like the summit version but hate to think what the conversion rate would be at present.
