Default New Project.

Hi everyone,
Well with the delay in working out what the next stage of my engineering was to be (all due to Darwin engineer not being very helpful and Christmas break), I started on my wifes car.
It is a 1974 VJ Valiant Charger, it will be fitted with front sheetmetal and headlight assys from a CXC CJ Chrysler, I plan on making headlight covers similar to what was fitted to Ford Landau.
The car will at this stage be painted in Hemi Orange both on top and underneath, it will have a 1980's pro street feel to the car.
If you want to see the complete build thread then please check out this.
http://www.hemi6pack.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24745
But here are some pics to show what I have done.
Here is the body rotisiere I made.

This is the starting point.

The car was originaly built for speedway racing but never got completed, first job was to get the cage out, and since the roof had been hacked off and only tacked back in place, and also the plenum chamber was badly rusted, I figured it would be best to take the roof and plenum off in one piece (I have a donor car that is supplying whatever it can to the project including roof and plenum)

Here it is with Plenum out.

And here is the donor one.

Roof on its new home.

Here it is on the rotisiere.

I have removed the body deadener that had been added to the rear wheel arches at some stage, I will be reapplying new deadener but wnated to get the old stuff out as it had just been sprayed over the original paint (never had deadener from factory) so it was peeling off in big flakes.

And that is where I am upto at the moment.

I realise it is not Cobra related and that is why I had not made mention of it till now.
So if people are not intersted just say so and I will not update and let it fall off the page.
I promise I wont be offended.

Good project Boxhead. I had one of those many years ago - the big Hemi 6 and the three-speed 'box on the floor - not that it needed gears with all that torque!

They are out my way Glen, but sadly they have introduced speed limits so there are no more open highways in Australia.
But with 500kls between towns and police stations there is plenty of room to see how fast you can go.

If I ever get to your side of the world I will look up every COBRA owner and ask "Yo, Vinie sent me" "You gunna gimmy a ride!" I'm sorry that's the best I can do. We do have some tracks here in the Midwest I air my Hot Rod out at Gingerman and Grattan are in Michigan. Autobahn in Joliet, Illinois (all road courses) and Byron dragstrip in Rockford, IL. There is Rt. 66 dragstrip, but tech. is to tight for a single rollbar. I'm sure you have some back roads like we do that you can "Test & Tune" you car.

Keep the updates coming Dave. Despite making me feel very inadequate, I love watching things like this come together.

It might make you feel inadequate Doc, but there is no way I would be going where you do with a scalpel in hand.

We all have our strengths.

Not alot more has happened yet Ben, I have replaced the R/H rear lower quarter panel and finished welding the roof in place.
There has been a detour in direction of the look.
A friend Photoshoped my intentions so I could see it "in the flesh" as opposed to in my mind.
I have been gathering parts for it, I know have a motor and gearbox (both need to be rebuilt) I have new 15 inch wheels for my Cobra and teh 17's I have will go on the Charger.
I also have all glass, a decent wireing loom, all lights and chrome work.
The new shed put things on hold for about 12 months.
Roof sections finished.

Rear quarter cut out, same done to L/H side.

And new section welded in.

And photoshop.

The whole lot will be moved from lean too, into new shed.
