Looks Familiar!

http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...&pictureid=189:)
This is my new gear lever, that will sit on my modified T56, It looks familiar because Mike did the "lever forward", conversion for me and designed the knob! Can't wait to change gear for real, instead of in my lounge room, Thanks again Mike, your attention to detail is amazing. Peter

Mando 02-15-2009 05:49 PM

Looks great, similar to some group A cars, good work.

Regards.

REPTYL 02-15-2009 07:42 PM

I'm sure Stiffy has something simular in the top drawer of his bed side table.
But, I don't think it's stainless:JEKYLHYDE

Crash box selector???

:LOL: But I'm sure it is for stepping things up a gear though Jas!!:LOL:

Aussie Mike 02-15-2009 10:50 PM

Thanks Peter,

I could make all sorts of comments about how its comfortable to hold or that you get a good grip on the knob but I think that'll just get me into trouble. %/

Needless to say the shift is designed to put the gear lever closer to the steering wheel so that it's a reach across rather than a reach down to a conventional shifter location.

I got the idea as Mando guessed from the shifters in the V8 Supercars. I've been running a similar shifter knob up in my Cobra and it's great on the track.

However, anyone wanting a custom machined marital aid can drop me a PM :p

Cheers

PM sent :)

Aussie Mike 02-15-2009 11:21 PM

PM Recieved.

Sorry Boxhead. I'll have to special order in an extra large diameter billet for that so it'll cost extra. ;)

Cheers

boxhead 02-15-2009 11:25 PM

With the quality of your work Mike, I am sure it will be worth every penny

Tenrocca 02-16-2009 01:08 AM

I am with you Mike, I was a little worried when I read OUR.

Mental note - Must avoid Andy at the Nationals or ShelbyFest.

Free with gearbox mods

Hey Aussie,

Do your gearbox mod kits come with one of them:p:p

STIFFY

P.S. REPTYL I dont have one next to my bed, I have one in my pants.:D

Aussie Mike 02-16-2009 10:25 PM

Yep,

The shifter relocation comes with the shifter shown and a billet knob. I've got a few different knob designs I've made over the years. I can machine something custom if you want something different, within reason of course (machining veins into it would be a bit tricky) %/.

I've done a few of this style with an AC or a Cobra logo in the top.

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...409Shifter.jpg

The knob threads on and it locked in place with a grub screw in the side. Makes it difficult for some one to steal it.

Cheers

With the remote factory lever removed, don't you lose spring plate that centres the shifter into the 3-4 plane when you knock it up out of 2nd or down from 5th?

My chassis doesn't allow for the shifter to be mounted directly to the box like Mike's mod so we're working on grafting the remote setup forwards the position displayed above. It will point backwards instead of hanging off the back of the box. I've also bought a short shift kit (eg, Harrop style) that should remove some of the factory vagueness.

Aussie Mike 02-16-2009 11:15 PM

Hi Paul,

Why won't your chassis let you put the shefter there? Is there a cross member in the way?

The new shifter has a spring setup in it that I shim to suit. It keeps lever centered over the 3-4 gate. I can dial it in for much spring tension there is as well as the ofset left or right.

Cheers

WKB 02-17-2009 12:52 AM

Paul,
Just relocate the crossbar that goes across the top of the gear lever postion. You won't be the first and certianly not the last to relocate this crossbar. I have seen this bar removed completey to fit a T56 gearbox with a forward gear lever( I think reloction would be a better option). If you have any worries talk to Warwick Harrision.

sambo 02-17-2009 04:41 AM

My engine/gearbox is 'ergonomically' too far back for the direct shifter position (as we'll call Mike's setup), so moving a crossbar won't make any difference. I spoke to Ripshift about a reverse handle on their popular shifter but they couldn't make it reach forward enough.

All this is pretty frustrating, because we've actually moved the engine forward about 50mm on the mounts, so it was never going to work in the direct position. I think some of these Harrisons have a bit of variation in the way they're setup. By the way I did speak to Warwick but it's hard for him to troubleshoot from interstate - besides, we've dealt with it now.

See pic below for further clarification. The black gaffer tape is where the direct shifter goes and you can see that it's almost at hip level to the driver. It wants to be 4-5 inches further forward. If you can imagine the whole thing another 50mm back from what you see in that photo, that's how the kit was delivered. NQR. :JEKYLHYDE
