Love your Car Andrew.
It will cause quite a stir when it is out and about.

Paint Job
Andrew,
That is a very impressive paint job. I would have to say that it looks better than an original ... if that is possible...
So, if it is better than an original is it still called a Replica???
Or is it called something else???
And can it be entered on a register that continues the tradition of the Cobra Brand...???

Thanks for your comments boys - however I would be embarresed to think that you thought it was anything too special. While I have tried to do something a little different, there are far too many flaws in the final finish to consider it worthy of too much hoo haa.
A few comments on the CR shape - while it is definately a taller body then an original - I REALLY like the shape - I think the slightly chunky look really works IMHO - so while not spot on to the original, it is a very pleasing shape to me.
The interior will be pretty traditional look - black leather and carpet, low back seats etc. With just a few nicer touches as not to stray too far from an original look. Shold get the dash done in the next couple of weeks so I can tidy up the wiring and start it up again. Been about 6 months of silence now.....
Cheers

Now there is a bluddy grand idea.
A register of cobras which are real but can't make the SAAC registry.

deja vu all over again
Didn't we just have a standing start showdown at ShelbyFest?
As I recall in the final there were:
3 of those trick light-weight CR's with those all-alloy efi ground pounding Chev motors up to 383ci
vs.
2 dodgy old iron block fords, a nice robnell with a 281ci and wobbly old RMC with reco'd 302....
-> oh-yeah very nice job on the CR - I think you've done amazing things with that paint

I got it out in the sun today and took a little (poor quality) vid of the car from some different angles:

Thanks for posting the video
That paint effect is quite something - but it sounds like a lot of effort
Would you do it again?

Dont know - it did take a lot of time, but I could do it lot better and faster next time. As a "paint" its pretty cheap too so suited the budget. It is an untested finish Im not sure how it will weather etc as well. If it starts to look crap I have a good base to sand back the whole car and get it properly done.
One thing about it I do like is that I dont have to be precious about the finish - drop something on it or scratch it and provided its not too deep you just scotchbrite it back

Flat Clear
My dash is the same colour as the the body but to avoid glare the dash was sprayed with a flat clear rather than gloss as per body.
Maybe that would be a good cover once you are happy with your finish of the stripes etc. and it might maintain the finish you want.
