The price Qld Transport quoted me a couple of weeks ago was $20 a day for the permit and $100 CTP insurance which is good for a couple of weeks.
For registration, you get your CTP insurance. Once you have that(which you have to get on the the day of the inspection/registration) I was told by QT I could drive the vehicle to the inspection station, no permit required.
