Default Isis Wiring System

I am ready to start wiring and are seriously considering installing the Isis system in my car. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Advantages
Disadvantages
Cost
Would appreciate any comments

Thanks Bob

Hi Bob, I was wondering why you would consider the installation of the ISIS system to your car when there seems to be so many other areas you can spend the extra money on a Cobra. Ill never forget what was said to me by my auto electrician and Sideshow on this forum that if a car has been wired properly you shouldnt need to touch it again after its finished except for minor tweeking of the setup. I dont see any advantage replacing the looms that travel from the front to the back of the car with the control boxes required, especially since if you run them in the tunnel, youll never see them again.
My 2 cents worth.

Regards.

Hi Mando, You could well be right. I do not know the cost yet as I am waiting for a reply from the manufacturer. I thought the technology looked interesting and would try and find out more about it. Thanks for the input.

Cheers Bob

when u look at the cost there is not much of a difference

an isis sysstem to suit a cobra is about 1400

a painless or ez2 wire kit is around 400 to 500 depending on brand

so when u look at a conbra costs over 60 grand whats another 1g

i have wired one up
i can wire it up
sorry but thats all info i can give due to things that have happened
between isis and us

Thanks Sideshow. I'm trying to read between the lines here. Apart from the things between you and Isis would you use this system again. I agree another grand is acceptable in the big picture.

Wodnas/Sideshow, if the TRUE difference in cost between the 2 COMPLETED systems was only
1-2 thousand dollars Id go for the ISIS system. I think thats good value for something that seems to me to be so advanced. But I know little about cars and even less about how they work.

Regards.

I have been chomping at the bit to try an ISIS on my CSX build.

My feelings though-- -- the level of sophisticated features in the ISIS may be partially lost in the roughness of the cobra platform.

-- but there are some really neat things to consider.

-- like 'fan timers after shutdown , variable voltage to different items like fuel pumps and lights, any circuit really.

Modern headlight timers , aaaand -- electrical theft protection on a whole new level.

for higher amperage items the ISIS wiring would trigger a relay as opposed to direct application of voltage.

The Cool thing about the ISIS is that it automatically turns all your switches into simple signal traps as opposed to carrying the work voltages, this means you would then remove the *smoke-smolder-burn* settings from your lucas switches.

OK I'm going to do it.

I have ordered a 3 cell kit, RF control module and windows based programmer.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Hey Wodnas, have you ordered your ISIS kit yet ?
I've been looking at it as well, and if you haven't ordered your's yet, maybe we could piggy back the order & maybe save some freight or get a deal on the price buying 2 of them together. I'm located at Vic Pt so I'm not that far from you at all

I placed an order about a week ago and I believe that it is on its way.
Freight was $200.

Isis use UPS which is a premium service at a premium price. The postage was about $200. The advantage? I guess is fast delivery - about 1 week.
When the goods arrive in Aus the government apply GST - 10% and duty?? which all comes to a total of $220.
UPS make contact with you when the parcel arrives and advise you of the tax and duty and upon payment they release the goods for delivery.
It all helps Kev pay off his debt to the rest of the world.

Hey Pecal, thanks for that..errrr I got the GST thing, but was wondering about the customs duty is all.

I KNOW about the GST.............man my wife & I are in the movie rental business and we pay so MUCH GST on everything we rent out....not ONCE but on every hire........rent a singe movie 1oo times = 100 times GST.........it sux...don't mind paying it once, but every time its a bit harsh !

ROG246,

Received the goods and tax invoice today - here's a breakdown of the charges.
GST - $156.59
Customs enrty fee - $55.20
Security fee?? - $9.95
Well I feel satisfied that I have done my bit this week for the ailing economy.
Just as an aside, I'm delighted with the Isis kit. Well put together and very comprehensive - just bustin' to get into it.

Peter

Mine should only be a couple of days away. I thought that if there was no equivalent Australian made product you can apply for a customs exemption as there is no local industry to protect. Probably not worth the effort for $55.
Same as you - cant wait to install it.

Cheers Bob

They are put together well, although they really could have been designed with a little more thought. it looks so Hi-Tech that they could have then mounted on the sides the plugs for the wires so then a cover could be made to just show the clear cover. would then look nice...

just my 2c worth

any way have fun installing it and what ever you do and i cant stress this enough DO NOT PUT POWER (12V+) down the input wires on the Master Cell

they are all earth triggers and you will ruin it quick smart.

Peter, I've got your number filed away and I'm still keen to come check out your car and those pesky alternator brackets - a bit busy this weekend though. These electrical gadgets sound interesting too. Will be in touch if that's still OK.
