Door rubbers?

The trimming is finished on my car and I'm quite happy with it except for the door rubbers that the trimmer has fitted. They are huge and prevents the doors from closing properly. I've been told to get hold of some 'Pinch Weld' and replace the HUGE rubbers that have been recently installed. Any ideas and some photos taken of the inside view of other doors trims and door seal rubbers would be MUCH appreciated.

Just as a side issue, I am not happy with the colour of the grey, plastic interior door handles. They just don't match anything else in the trim. I have been directed to a Company called Uticolor. Apparently they can change the colour of these quite easily and they do it at your place. Has anyone had any experience with this Company and what was the standard of their work like?

I have attached three photos of the door seal rubbers so you can see what I mean:- Double click on them to enlarge.

Regards
Baz

Baz, shame about that rubber trim but its easily fixed. You will probably find someone closer to home but check out the range at Bill Thompson Auto Rubbers.

Baz this earlier thread shows some.

Also if you want metal door release handles - the Mitsubishi Pajero is the one that I used.

Try grippy rubber products at Silverwater also - much stuff there.

Hi Baz,

I had the same problem with my RMC after the interior trim was fitted. I did not allow for the thickness of the door trim panels when I fitted the door seals. I also had to fit standard pinchweld instead. I went to my local Clark Rubber store, they have a really big range of sizes and colours. You can even take a couple of small samples to check on your car. Much better than trying to guess from a catalog.

Someone recently put me onto Purple Pig. They do tons of rubber products, among them pinchweld. Click on "Catalogs", then "Rubber Products" and go to page 34. The diagrams include dimensions if you're willing to take a punt.

Thanks for all the advice fellas.

Ross... Like you, my problem only evolved after the door trims were constructed and fitted. The trimmer used a Pinchweld with the bubble on the side. This prevented the doors from closing correctly. He did the same thing with the boot and just forgot altogether about the channel around the engine bay where the bonnet closes.

You have suggested exactly what I have done this morning. I attended my local Clark Rubber store and purchased 3 metres of standard Pinchweld, the profile was just the 'U' shape with no bubble on the side. Unfortunately, I could have any colour I liked as long as it was black. A Guy from Uticolor is colouring the Pinchweld and my inner door handles in brown to match the edging on my carpet.

I also purchased 3 metres of Supersoft self adhesive rubber which I am installing around the leading, trailing and under-side edges of the doors so it won't be visible unless you get down on your hands and knees and look up under the door. When the doors are closed the Supersoft will be hard up against the Pinchweld, preventing any water from entering the cockpit, yet allowing the doors to close correctly.

Thanks again to everyone for your valued input.

Baz.

Sounds good Baz. Put in a pic of the placement of the Supersoft rubber when you can.

Will do Merv. Give me a couple of days though.

Here you go Merv.....

I have removed the Pinchweld with the rubber buld on the side and replaced it with standard Pinchweld with no rubber bubble. Also had the interior door handles and Pinchweld coloured to match the trim. Here are three pics... Check out the difference when compared to the photos at the beginning of this thread.

I've just discovered how to make the photos large again. Yipee.......

That's pretty much the setup we run on our CRs. There's no lip to attach a pinch weld door rubber to so adhesive backed neoprene is the go. You cant see it unless you look under the door.

I don't know why we worry. It's not like it'll keep the rain or the wind away. I think the rubbers are more to stop the door rattles.

Cheers

Looks great Baz. Those chrome inserts where the hinges come through, are they custom or can they be bought? Same design as Harrison in that area.

Merv and Sharon 08-07-2009 04:05 AM

Very nice Baz! Much more discrete!

Merv
