Default "Body-on" or "body-off" paint

I'm guessing that most people do "body off" paint jobs. My only concern with "body-off" paint is the fiberglass "gap-filling" that needs to be done on B&B's after the body is mounted for the last time. Does any of that inner fiberglass work affect the exterior paint? I'd like to hear your success stories and horror stories of "body-on" and "body-off" paint jobs. Thanks...

Mike

I see no way of painting the B&B with body off.
The body has to be man handled too much to install.

Plus, it's not that hard to paint on the frame.

a good body man will tape it off so you dont get overspray on everything......
mine removed the doors, hood, and trunk lid to paint the insides of those pieces....
and painted them seperately them put them back on for cut and buff......
mine looks like a million bucks........couldent be happier with his work...

I had the body on my cobra painted body off which worked great. It allowed the painter to fine tune the body work and undercoat the entire body. Before I sent it to the painter I made fiberglass panels to fill the largest gaps. After I installed the body back on the frame I epoxied the panels in and used flexiable caulk between the fiber glas panels and the body. I also used close celled pipe insulation that has the adhesive where it is split to fill in the some of the areas such as between the passenger compartment and the trunk.

Default B&B paint

this is Bryan From B&B MFG I always paint our cars off the chassis, if your car is already built and this is a repaint then i would just tape it off and paint it on the chassis, please feel free to call me at 417 472-3547 if you need any more information on how we paint them in house.

Bryan

Not to hi-jack this thread but Byran, can you give me an update on the windshield and frame we are waiting for? I have sent you a few emails but no answer.

Thanks again
Jason

I stand corrected! Just because I couldn't do it doesn't mean it can't be done correctly!
I racked my pea brain and couldn't figure out a way to get it back on without damaging the paint job. I would have loved to be able to do it that way.

Bryan needs to youtube some howtos!

I had mine painted body on. I agree with, it's a lot of work to man-handle the body on and off again. But, hey, what do I know, I've just done one and Bryan has done many.
