Default Custom Rear Sway Bar

After 18k + miles on our B&B, we're mulling over building a custom sway bar for the rear to help with the body roll we experience at times. Has anyone tried this? Was thinking of using the passenger side of the axle and attaching to the chassis on the drivers side. Any input would be welcome!

What rear axle set-up do you have?

On my NAF chassis I have a rear cross member that my rear shocks attach to, aft of and above the rear axle.
I used a Speedway Engineering sway bar setup (“torsion bar” bar with aluminum arms) which I attached to the same rear cross member with the arms running forward and attached via links to the Ford 9 “ rear axle.
I sized the sway bar using standard sway bar calculations and ran a sway bar that is 75 to 80 % the stiffness of my front sway bar which is an MGB 7/8” sway bar.
Great handling with no body lean but does not make the car overly stiff. Depends on your spring rates of course.
Check out the pics in my Gallery.
Cheers
Greg

As My427cobra said, make sure that your rear sway bar is smaller than the front sway bar. You do not want the rear to be stiffer than the front.

What you are talking about with attaching the sway bar to the passenger side of the axle and the chassis on the drivers side sounds more like a pan hard bar than a sway bar. A pan hard bar limits the amount of side-to-side movement in a solid rear axle. It does not act entirely in the same manner as a sway bar would.

I'm the other driver of the 18k+ miles on the B&B Cobra, although I would say I've driven over half of those miles, right dad?

It has a Ford 9" axle and there are no currently no sway bars in the front or back. I found some pictures of one put together by "Duke," but I have no idea what components he used. He connected just above the rear coil over mount on both sides with pivot mounts bolted to the frame just above the gas tank.

1795 is correct, we should not be looking for a pan hard bar setup. Thanks for the replies so far!

Like 1795 said. You do need a panhard bar.

And B&B, the pic you posted is a very similar rear sway bar set-up to mine.

Cheers
Greg
