Any tips for cutting the body for exhaust ports

Hi Guys,

I am just about ready to fire up the engine and if everything goes right install the body. Do you have any tips for cutting the notches in the body to fit the headers/exhaust?

Measure twice cut once.

It was nerve racking for me to cut out the holes. Didn't really like cutting out big holes. Kept thinking I'd screw it up. Mounted my headers and drilled a hole in the body with a hole saw near the center of the flange. Ground out with a rotary file in a drill. Little at a time ,trial fitting the side pipes. Wasn't all that bad to do. Took about 1 1/2 hours to do both sides. Lots of dust, wear a dust mask. Jim

What I did on my CR was put the sidepipe on the header flange on the CR it has four bolts I used bottom header hole top sidepipe hole this was just to get an idea where the hole should be once you figure the lenght and some idea how high to go, I used a angle die grinder with a rotery
rasp to do all my cutting works very good and easy to control just remember cut a little you can always make it larger later.

we bolt all the head tubes to the motor then trace them with a pencil or marker- (on the inside of the side rocker panel) this formes the rough shape and then start with an 1/8 inch drill bit at the center of the traced pattern, and go from there-
take your time and go slow- you wont make too big of a mistake if you only go by mabey 1/2 inch hole increments- like I said before- go slow and start small- its easy to take out more, not so to add

I have a B&B with a small block and cut the finder with the body all ready painted, I used a high speed cutting wheel, and finished up with a high speed christmas tree sanding disc, it worked very nice. the trick is make sure tou use a high speed but dont burn it, if the body is not painted yet it will be easy, make sure you give yourself some extra room for the pipes to move (radical cams) mine I had to do over they were hitting at idle.
