Side vent mounting.

Ok oh wise ones. How in the world did you mount the side fender vent to the fender? Did you use the B&B supplied louvers? Did yours fit the opening?

I used a high strength clear "caulk" so I could remove them if need to get to the master cylinder

Did the same thing--GE black silicone caulk works great

After much thought about this touchy problem, I settled on a variant of the other posters.
You will need to, be able to easily remove to get to MC, hoses, leaks, etc. I bonded a 1 1/4 strip of 1/4 in wood on the top and bottom of the glass opening. I mount the vents to the wood with a no 6/8 sheet metal screw that will stay on a magnetic phillips head screw driver. This will allow one person to screw them in/out after you get the holes drilled in the right place

Most people glue them on with silicon, but have heard of some people using Industrial Velcro.

larry sounds like you are allmost done what color is the beast,did you chrome the louvers,black or body color? your web site needs up dating. get busy ,Ha ha hahahahahahah.

Actually I'm not near finished. And your right, I need to update but there's little to update. I have been struggling with some little problems like the louvers, covering the holes for the roll bar and shock mounts, etc... I'm thinking of going black with the louvers but want to mount them in a way that can be removed but secure. You've shamed me into getting back to work!!!!

I was at a show in Pomona where a guy had his vents stolen off his FFR while he was off looking at the other cars. I'd go with silicone AND screws.

hey,larry. just a suggestion,i wish i had mounted my seat belts (shoulder harnesses)before putting the body on.crawling in the trunk to drill the bolt holes is no fun and i had to get a right angle air drill. P.S.nice hole coverings

Luckily I thought of that and have the rear mount for the seatbelts done. Thanks for the heads-up though!
I'm trying to bribe some help now to set the body back on for the final time.

check out luke-44 for pic's of louver mounting.he used an angle piece of alluminium rivetted to the louver then silliconed it to the body.

Thanks! That's kind of the direction I was heading. I think I will epoxy an angled piece to the body and then screw the louver to the piece. That way I can remove it if I need to and also make sure that it is tight when installed.
