Default Ididit column and Horn

How do I get the horn working with the Ididit column and the GM steering wheel adapter with center horn push button? Do I need to purchase a switch that inserts into the column?

Thanks,
Corey C

There is a 1/4" spade connector that the black wire from the opposite side of the horn relay runs to.

When you press the horn, it connects to ground.

Find the 1/4" spade connector and put an Ohm meter to it and ground, press the button. I should read from infinity to near zero as you press the horn button.

The horn should sound when the wire touches any ground.

Hope this helps.

Default Horn

It has been a long time but I am now back at it. Still have not fixed the horn issue. I understand it makes a ground to sound the horn but when I look in there a have a brass screw on the back of the center cap and 3 holes in the center of the column (one which looks like it has some sort of connector inside) How exactly is the gound made and am I missing some kind of connector in there?

Thanks,
Corey

I had to run a ground wire to the outer steering column casing. I used the steering column fasteners keep the ground wire attached to the steering column casing.

You have to buy a horn contact from an earlier gm vehicle. I believe a mid 70's part will work. I have seen them for second generation Cameros.
Here's one on fleabay.

Just google "GM horn contact" and you'll come up with all kinds of hits.

Thanks...that's just what I needed. One more thing crossed off my list.
