Backdarft has regional dealers for a reason, you may need them after the sale. I have heard nothing but positive remarks about Jay at Vintage, but since you are in Texas I would reach out to James Yale because he is relatively close to you in Houston. James will also be at the Texas Cobra Club spring meet in San Marcos the last weekend of March.
Engines- I have an FIA from Unique, with a 425 cu in Windsor; AFR 225 heads, custom cam, and Edelbrock Super Victor intake. I really like the sound of the motor and it is what you would expect in a small block car. That said, if I was doing my build today, I would go with with either 5.0 Coyote or (cough) a GM LS series motor. Both of these motors are much more efficient than the faithful windsor and has the potential to make as much or more power at the tires. Most of the 418 to 427 Ford small block strokers make between 410 and 475 rwhp, engine dyno on these is 530 to 600hp. Jay's 5.0 Coyote put down 420 to the tire from a motor that is only supposed to make 414 SAE net HP. You will need a taller gear for this smaller motor, but they love boost, get better fuel economy, can be inspected and is a factory proven unit. My opinion is that times are changing and we will see more modern power trains in these cars.

They're just being kind!

Kind of like when your friend shows you his new baby for the first time and the child is really ugly.

Guys,
Thanks for all the good advice you have provided over the past few days, I have finally taken the plunge and just finished speccing and ordered BDR 1091 from Jay at Vintage.
The car is black with white stripes and roundels. Engine wise, my head said Coyote and my heart said 427 and as usual when it comes to my cars, the heart won. I have gone with a VMS 427R built by Speding with the Eight Stack injection.
Let the waiting begin.......it is going to be a long few weeks!

Andy

Congrats Andy, these cars are a thrill to drive and I think you'll be happy having the 427 under the hood. There's nothing rationale, logical or practicle about owning one of these cars so going with your heart is the only way to go!

Enjoy following the build on Jay's website, the wait is half the fun.

We're so excited for you Andy! Can't wait to see the eight stack injection!! You've made an excellent choice...both with VMS and Smeding Performance. Great engine builder.

When you get a chance...let everyone know what options you went with. We'll have fun following the BDR 1091 build as it progresses on the VMS website!! I was wondering who was going to pick up that beautiful black with white stripes/ruondels Cobra!!!

Ok - here goes with the spec:
Polished Smeding 427 + Eight stack with polished manifold and black wrinkle finish stack bodies 600hp/590 ft/lbs;
TKO 600;
Black wheels
Black CC headers and pipes - pipes with stainless heatshields;
I am hoping it will look pretty striking in this combo.
