Wheels 15"
Hello
Does anyone has tried to put rims 15 "in Trigo? ( Trigo Wheels | Wheels For Your Cobra!)
I can not find the wheels 15" Backdraft.
Backdraft hubs come from BMW and are therefore 5x120 mm (4.725).
The adapters are provided in Trigo to fit either the Ford 4.50 (5x114,3 mm)
either on the Chevy in 4.75 (5x120,65 mm).
Mounting on Chevy seems to be mounted on the BMW (0.65 mm (0.255) difference in diameter).
Verification of the fixing of the adapter to the hub :
It fits perfectly on the hub.
No hard point on the studs due to the difference of 0,65 mm in diameter.
There's even a little game A centering ring may be necessary.
However it should be noted that this game is similar when mounting on the hub 17.
The conical head nuts can center the wheel. It's the same with the adapter.
Measuring the offset inside / outside wheels relative to the bearing face:
This is important to make sure that future wheels are positioned correctly in the wing
(not too inside or too outside!).
So we will take as reference the wheel dimensions of 17 we will compare with the wheels 15 from Trigo (with the addition of the adapter - 1cm thick).
Rear Wheel:
Measures between the bearing face of the rim and the outer edge and inside thereof.
Measure 1: Between support surface and the inside edge (Backspace) = 14,5cm (5,71)
Measure 2: Between support surface and rim outer side = 16cm (6,30)
Front Wheel:
Measure 1: Between support surface and the inside edge (Backspace) = 11,2 cm (4,41)
Measure 2: Between support surface and the outside edge = 11,5 cm (4,53)
Trigo wheel dimensions 427 cobra-5 pins:
On the site of recovery Trigo coastal front and rear wheels:
Before rim width = 7 ½ = 7,5x2,54 = 19,05 cm
Backspace = 3,625 = 9,21 cm
Rear rim: width = 9 ½ = 9,5x2,54 = 24,13 cm
Backspace = 3,625 = 9,21 cm
Do not forget to add the thickness of the adapter = 1cm (0.965cm exactly!)
In summary :
The gap to within 6.6 mm on the front wheels and 0.8 mm on the rear wheels is widely acceptable aesthetic level.
Trigo wheels 15 seem to adapt to the Backdrafts.
What do you think?
Excuse for my english, i'm french..

Very nice write up Thierry! I'm sure a lot of people here will be happy to know that you can use the 15" Trigos on the Backdrafts, nice wheels.

Hi Titi,
Great job ! Sure that many backdraft guys will bless you... Trying the chevy pattern hub was finally a good idea.
Next step, you'll have to find some 15" rims in chevy pattern, to check if it could really fit. Not so easy to find in the area, I'm afraid.
Are your 15' wheels already ordered ?

You may also want to check Team III wheels. They were the original suppliers of 15" wheels to Backdraft.

Yep, but their 15" wheels are bolt-on ones. The challenge was to fit Trigo pure knock-off halibrand rims.
They sell knock off adapters too, but only in Ford or Chevy pattern.

Yep. Bolt ons. But, Team III has a "poor man's" adaptor that covers the bolts and it looks just like a knock off. Much less money unless you already own the Trigos.

I have BDR 226 with bolt on 15" wheels (circa 2005). Will the Team III adapters fit these wheels to cover up the lug nuts? Thanks.

Can you tell me what dimensions you have on your team III (rim width + Backspace) please?

You may have to check with Backdraft Racing to find out exactly which wheel they used on earlier (15" equipped) cars. I did have some parts made by Frank Fahey Racing in San Diego to help center the wheels on the hubs (hubcentric) as I had balance issues. This solved that problem, and at the same time I added the lug covers. It looked great! I just remember searching for pin drive knock offs, found the bolt covers from TeamIII and never looked back. Wheels are more securely mounted, look like knock offs and it saved tons of money! Win, win, win for me.

I emailed Team III and the covers do fit the wheels on my Backdraft. These also come with open lug nuts to replace the current lug nuts. The size is 15 x 8 and 15 x 10. I dont know the backspace. I plan to order the covers this week.

So I saw the BDR with 15inch Knock offs on BDR Facebook. They said the wheels have been disconnected. So does the Chevy pin adapter work with the Trigo Wheels? They also said the later BDR with the larger BMW brakes didnt have the clearance to use 15inch wheels. Anyone tried to mate the wheels up and ride yet?

One of my friends had a BDR in 17' wheels. He adapted some Trigo 15' wheels in chevy pattern. Fits right, no clearance problem with the brakes, but he has to machine lightly the wheel and the hubs, to have the wheels kept inside the fenders (because of backspace problem).
But now, it drives perfect, with the right look (he put Gy billboards on it ! Nice...

Any write up out there for what he did specifically with pics? Any idea of what # BDR he has? Ive been told the later ones had larger brakes that 15" wheels wont clear. Thanks.

Ok, I'll ask him for some details and pics, and I'll post it soon (maybe I will do it himself). I was also told that latest BDR has BMW E90 brakes, so that why they need larger wheels (18', as far as i know)...

I have #982. I run 17in knock offs with no clearance issues. I know when it was being built there was a issue running the wilwood 6 pistons with 18in wheels. They rubbed if I remember correctly. Id have to ask Jay if it was a backspacing issue or something else. Looking forward to what ever you can post and some pics. Im getting excited about the chance to run true 15in knock offs with billboards.
