Default New Radiator Installed

I have an early BDR - number 10 - with the 2 10" fans and they never could keep up with the engine - I have finally gotten around to changing the radiator for the new BDR High-E unit -

The old radiator did not have mounts on the top or bottom - just the pins on the side to the AL mounting plate - so I needed to wrap the new radiator and mount to the frame - pictures show the mount

It is getting cooler here in Phoenix but hope to get some hours on this new set up before the cool weather really sets in

I have had the upgraded radiator sitting in the box for several years now. I have still not mounted it (been waiting for a reason to have fluid drained). My radiator did not come with side ear mounts like yours. This winter I plan on putting it in though. I think I will mount on the sides of the radiator rather than on top/bottom like I have seen others do.
How did the hoses line up? Any adjustments needed any where else?

Mark

I think we have the same radiator - it took me a while to decide how to mount the radiator because it did not fit in the old mounting brackets and I did not have any mounts on the top or bottom -

I wanted to insure the radiator was mounted to the frame - and the only place to easily get to the frame was using the original holes that the AL bracket was using with a side mount - I purchased 2 pieces of AL - 2" x .125" by 8' - it was long but it was available everywhere. I folded the first piece around the side - top - side - all the way to the bottom. I found the 2" fit perfectly in the top and bottom channel. The second piece I folded side - bottom - side with the first piece of AL in place - once this piece was made I came up about 8" and bent out about 1.25" at a 45deg and than bent straight up - on both sides -

I counter sunk bolts in the first piece of AL to mount to the second - fitted it with claps for a tight fit and put it together - the two AL strips hold the radiator very snug

I put a couple of mounting holes on the "ears" - so I could try different heights - and mounted to the rear frame hole. I had also mounted a couple of 1" AL to the top of the frame and connect those to the front of the frame holes -

On the hoses - because the radiator moved back a couple of inches the bottom hose no longer fit but all the others were fine

Hope this helps - good luck

jim
