Cobra Valley Spinner Tool
Has anyone purchased a spinner 9-1-1 removal tool from Cobra Valley? Does it work as advertised?:confused:

I've seen it and saw how it works. I liked it. A great tool if you tend to have problems with spinners. I did once and this would have gotten the spinner off.

I ordered and received the spinner tool. Some nice workmanship in the part. The bad side ot it is that it will not work with the 18" wheels. Working with the Mfg to see if he can modify it to work on these wheels More to follow when I know.

Agreed it works great for the 15" rims on my car. Actually when I received the Spinner 9-1-1 removal tool I thought it was a great invention and a work of art. The best part, it works!

I also have the 15 inch wheels and way too much time on my hands so when I got my 911 I decided to really test it. I hammered the spinners on as hard as I thought I could without snapping one and then used the tool for removal. Worked like a charm no matter what I did to screw it up. Being the mechanical moron that I am, if I cannot screw it up it is pretty fool proof. I love it. BTW, I also tried the same thing with a Mutherthumper 6 lb lead hammer from Cobra Valley and I was still able to remove the spinners but it was difficult in comparison to the 911. I am sure if you had an overtightened spinner than had also been on a long time (unlike mine) that the 911 would be even more impressive. Hopefully I will never have to test that theory.

Why won't it work on the 18" wheels and would it work on 17" ones which is what I have? Also could someone post the link to their website please?

I had the misfortune of breaking an ear on one of my spinners because it was on so damn tight and I didn't want to take a chance on breaking any more so I ordered the 911 tool from Cobra Valley. WOW!! I should have bought this a long time ago. It took the rest of the spinners off without any effort. I couldn't believe how easy it was. This tool is a must.

I ordered one and received it yesterday. I mounted it on a wheel to see how it fits but didn't loosen the spinner since I just had my wheels off recently. When I ordered it, they asked me what wheels I had so they apparently know which wheels it will work on, or at least the more common ones. The tool is very well-made. I didn't spend extra money for the polished option they offer. As nice as the one I received looks, the polished one would have to be kept in a display case :) |

Does these have the leather on them so they don't have metal to metal touching? Also, what is the torque that you use on your wheels? Ron |

All the contact points are nylon so shouldn't scratch. Not sure I understand your torque question... Kevin |
I have used this tool on both my and my customer's cars, yes it works well and is much better than what we used to do. The times we have used it, there was no damage to the wheel in any way. Like any tool it is a nice thing to have it in the tool belt when you need to use it.

The tool that I used to have went between all 3 ears and had leather to keep it from scratching. It also used a 1/2" socket and the torque I was talking about was what you torque your wheels to when tightening them as my old one was completely different than this one and I used a torque wrench to tighten them. I think this one looks as if it would be a better one and you can use the lead hammer to help it. Ron Quote:

With this tool you still use the lead hammer to put the spinners on, so the torque is 6 or 7 good whacks with a 6 lb. hammer... There are a couple of videos on their website that show the tool in action. Kevin |

Always. Raw aluminum on raw aluminum is real problem. The aluminum will gall (roll into little balls, chatter and generally get real ugly). The beveled surfaces of the spinners and wheels are raw and will bind & lock w/o anti-seize.
I put anti-seize on the steel threads of the hub adapter as well. Since starting to use anti-seize this I don't have a problem. Removing the wheels once in a while helps too. And then a cheap plug for RT's Spinner Lube, it works. Jim |
Or better yet, I work in a metal fabrication shop and the thread lube of choice here is "Do All Tool Saver"(see attached). This lube prevents galling on any material. We have the biggest problem with stainless on stainless. This lube is in a wax form. Works great!

I spent the weekend working again on the car. Used the spinner tool to remove the wheels on the Backdraft car. These are the new 18" wheels they are using on all the new cars. The body of the tool is to short for these wheels. In order to make it work you would need to extend the body about 5/8" which would allow the nylon pad to lay flat on the wheel. I broke the nylon pad in attempting to use it as I received it. Using the tool is easy and makes removing the wheels a pleasure. I only wish Craig with Craigs Cobras would make the tool longer for these wheels. I will modify mine to fit as it makes removing them simple. I will try to post pictures of the modification.
