Default Fan continues to run when cold

I think it is the temp switch. I un plug the positive lead and the fan goes off The switch on the dash works correctly Any one had to replace the temp switch?

Default Could be a grounded wire

My temp switch goes to ground when the engine is hot.

I removed the wires a few months ago and when I reattached the temp switch, I slightly bent the contact so that it grounded to the intake. So, my fans ran whenever the key was on, hot or cold. It's an easy fix if that's your problem.

Granted, there are all kinds of temp switches, but most likely it works by providing a ground when the engine is hot.

My fan was running long after the engine should have been cooled down ...checked and found that the coolant was down and the sender was getting the wrong reading...it wasn't running hot on the road, but it did increase when I shut the engine off...lesson learned...check EVERYTHING before leaving the garage...have you checked your water level

I checked the water level. Filled it up and ran the engine the second time. The upper hose was warm long after the engine was shut off. The lower hose was cool but had water in it. The fan still runs after the engine has been off for several hours. The water temp in normal during driving and using the manual fan control which works correctly.

I replaced the defective fan switch and now the fan does not run with the ignition switch off. Hope the fan turns on when the engine gets warm.
