Default 188 - 210 diffs

Hi all, I don't post here much but I just thought Id post for anyone thinking about upspec'n their mid case rear diff due to breakages?

In 6 years Ive broken 6 diffs. Mind you ALL diffs are broken in a racing environment. 300 wide slicks 500 approx HP at the treads. The main issue is Ive been using 4.27 gear sets for our tracks here. With this size there's less meat around your ring and pinion and often a big boom is the result.

After some chats with Reg, Ive now replaced my 188 mid case diff with a 210 large case. All E36 M3 LSD but in Australia we got the E36 M3 Euro 3.2 which allowed me to reuse everything like axles etc etc. I changed out the diff cradle to the large case cradle as the diff snouts are longer and bolt ups are different.

But amazing apart from redesigning and fabbing a revised front bolt bracket everything was direct bolt in.

So if anyone is having issues and you can get Euro BMW parts this was a fairly easy and cheap bolt in modification. You can also get your USA spec 750il large case diff and buy the conversion parts from CESMotorsport over there which will also work and you can keep your existing cradle.

For me there was only a little fab work and its in. The diff is huge and heavy but apart from making huge mods and running a ford 8.8 etc the few mods to change in this instance and cheap ness to do has turned out to be a pretty good option.

Now the Jerico 4spd comes out and a Hollinger 6sp sequential goes in!

Matt
