My 2001 Cobra (registered as a 2001 Custom, insured as a "Cobra Replica") is insured through Condon & Skelly (one of the companies on your list that you say you called and said no?). They are happy to insure any classic/vintage car or motorcycle for me, they have never said no. Anyway, my premium for this year is $425. Try them again, something doesn't sound right here.
