One is not going to change the suspension system.. It is a BMW E36 system, no one will rip it out and change to say Corvette C6 upper and lower control arms.

One can improve upon the stock E36 suspension system with performance E36 parts. There are many websites and companies dealing with performance parts for an E36.

One can also improve upon the shocks. Here is a thread on the subject started by you.
