Default Need Certified Technician in Ocala , Florida

Hello:

I am new to this club and would appreciate some advice,

I recently purchased a 2018 BDR 427 Cobra. Currently, I live in Pembroke Pines Florida;however, I will be moving to Ocala, Florida very soon.

Can any one recommend a certified technician who can work on these cars in Ocala. Unfortunately, I am not mechanically inclined...otherwise I would do the work my self. My dealer will be several hundred miles away, so that is not an option.

If anyone can help me I would be forever grateful

If you haven't already, I'd strongly recommend joining the Deep South Cobra Club at https://www.dscc.us/

There are lots of local (or nearby) Backdraft owners who can no doubt help with your question, especially if you post the question there.

Ron,

These cars tend to not be the buy them and drive them sorts of vehicles you purchase from Detroit style manufacturers. Cobra replica's require / demand a higher level of mechanical awareness, skills and involvement on the part of the owners.

After a purchase (new) there is typically a period of time that is spent sorting things out to operate and drive correctly. Once you get through that phase there is a relatively regular maintenance regimen that is both car and driver driven and at least to some extent dependent on how you operate the vehicle.

The car's ownership experience is not even remotely similar to buying a performance sporty car (like a Corvette?) from a Detroit manufacturer. You will either be inexoribly drawn into learning how to and also maintaining your Cobra or you will be drawn into a service regimen where you have to locate reputable, experienced Cobra replica familiar shops that will do the work for you. The latter alternative is impressively expensive at best.

I live in Leesburg which is just south of Ocala. The closest place to you that I would recommend is in Ocala. The name is Burnyzzz and is located at 1 Aspen Road, Ocala. They do a lot of work on Backdraft cars. They install the engine and transmissions for a company next door to them who sell new Backdraft cars.

Ronald, it's a car, a simple but unique car.
It becomes a hobby, and learning about this hobby will require a degree of hands on work when things loosen up, or just quit! Eschaider is correct.
To enjoy these things you have to drive them. The good news is a good mechanic is all you need. The better news is you don't have a lot of extra's to worry about, i.e. ( power steering, power brakes, air conditioning) which means those and all of the associated things with them you don't need to know or deal with. Welcome to the madness.

In the past I have owned a number of exotic cars that were a nightmare to maintain ( i.e. Ferraris, Maseratis, Vipers etc)

Your search can be constrained by looking for someone that knows how to work on 60s and 70s engines. (Note 1) Knowing how to set up a carburetor is much more important than knowing about the Cobra's knockoff spindles.

Note 1: Such people will tend to work in small shops and be found by word of mouth more than billboard advertising. Go to your local car show and find some Cobra owners and ask them where they get their cars worked on.

Unless your racing it or driving the hell out of it just change the oil with a good quality motor oil(Castrol GTX has never let me down in 30 years) every 2-3k miles doing it more your just depleting the environment faster. Would use a slightly higher viscosity if your only going to cruise Florida(15/50w) or even 20/50 if know car not going to be started in lower temps, like 40F. I live in the 33525 zip down the road from you. If it is a Ford Engine find a competent Ford Srvc garage for the rest of the running gear is BMW E36 Platform and therefore any competent BMW shop or tech can handle the suspension/brakes once you clue them into that, they will recognize the minute they see it, if they are worth their salt as a BMW tech. Since I have owned my Gen1 haven't taken it anywhere to have it serviced, brakes/pads(Cross-drilled M3's all around), installed front oil cooler, hood latches/hinges, speedo issues, electric gremlins, door lock pins, heating system, etc.
