Default Junk Yard check on engines

Hey,
I am about to buy a engine from a junk yard for my Backdraft Cobra. They send me pics of the qr code and the number of the blog.
Where can I check if that matches the VIN they also gave me?

I guess that's what they also would need and do when register the car at DMV or CHP check.

Thanks

I can only assume the QR code has to do with their inventory system, not the engine itself.

As to the 'blog', I assume you mean the number stamped on the engine BLOCK. That should match up with the VIN from the vehicle it was originally installed in, though such stamping didn't start until the late 1960s. If the engine was manufactured earlier than that it won't be stamped.

Some engines were stamped on the rear of the block under the cylinder head, others underneath the starter. You may have to degrease and scrape accumulated gunk off the block to find it.

What kind of engine is it? Purported age / vintage?

I just helped a friend buy something from a "Junk Yard" (It's actually LKQ, which is anything but a junk yard - you should see their facility). If it's a place like this they are extremely well organized and if they say an engine came out of a certain VIN, I would take their word for it. They have no horse in a race short of it being solid gold.

Whether or not that engine was original to the vehicle it was removed from can only be verified by a physical examination of the engine. Since the vehicle is long gone you'll depend on Ford's system to give you vehicle details as to what the original engine was.)

For verification purposes the DMV is likely to accept the junk yard's VIN number as the source.
