Think this would be a great addition to my BDR. The question raised on "stress" now concerns me. With the new hinges being designed for this application, does the possible stress issue become a moot point? FredG, can you share the designers email address?

Here is what I received back when I inquired about the piston force.

The answer to the question is 20 lbs of force. When I got the gas shock I thought it was too much for the hinge, but it is perfect. The hinge on the trunk is very solid because you are using 2 bolts to hold it in place and the trunk is reinforced from the factory at that exact location. That is why I chose to use the stock mounting location. In addition, I didn’t want to drill additional holes in the car. I actually had a custom made gas shock at 10 lbs of force and it was not enough to hold it in place. The lower mount is the stock mount where we leave the bracket connected to the car but take off the special mechanical bracket and put a ball stud in it’s place. The only drilling you have to do is when you remove the mechanical bracket the hole used to mound that piece is too small for the ball stud, so it needs to be slightly bigger. This kit fits and operates perfectly. You will love it. Thank you.
