Default What do you get with a BDR?

Hi ho from Chicago!

Well I put a Deposit down on a BDR through Mr. Bill Allen of Allen Motorcars. Got a motor and got a trans....now what?

Does anyone have an exact list of what BDR gives you? Do I need to buy anything like hoses for radiator or a trans mount bracket? Probably should have asked before I dove in but hey if you know me my whole life has been a little a$s backwards!! LOL!

From what I recall after talking to Mike Mack awhile back he showed me the trunk and it had every thing I could possibly need to get the car running.

Here's a brief list of what you may need.

Trans mount (don't forget the bolts)
Radiator hoses (just 2 short elbows that if you ask for they may provide or at least give you the part numbers.)
Fuel pump. (My Southern Automotive motor came with a mech. pump)
Fuel filter
MSD ignition box. (not required but the car is prewired for it)
Motor (including all pullies, alternator, carb, air cleaner...)
Clutch
Clutch arm (the kit comes with the slave cylinder for the clutch)
Throwout bearing
Trans
Shifter (the ****er arm is included)
Bell housing
Motorcycle exhaust springs for sidepipe to header connection. (again, beg your dealer for this and they may throw it in.)
Header to engine bolts. (the new split lock are pretty cool and won't loosen up on you.)
gas
Antifreeze
brake fluid

Motor mounts are inlcluded.
Speedo cable and sender are included.
Drive shaft and yoke is included.

This may not be everthing, but it's all I can think of right now.

....and of course the best thing you get with a BDR is that s__t-eating grin when you take it for a drive!

Got mine in October, have a 1,000 miles on it already (not bad for being gone for most of December)

Cheers

Bill

Congradulations!

The car comes with the tranny cross member, however, you will need a polyur... tranny mount for a Mustang. Also, you will need emblems for the steering wheel and shifter knob. Likewise, badges for trunk and nose are not included.

Nuts and bolts are of a premium when finishing it out so plan to make 40 trips to Home Depot. If there is one near you, it's better to buy handfuls by the pound at a place like Tractor Supply or some other place that will sell them by the pound and not by the piece.

Get ready for many smiles........
Speaking of emblems.. Does anyone know where you can get the emblem for the steering wheel? Also need wiper blades/arms for an early production (I think ) BDR. It has the beveled ends where the arms attach.
Thanks,
John

Got snake,
You will also need an assortment of crimp on /heat seal wire ends for the alt. starter and other things. Also a drill and tap to mount the side pipe brackets to the frame. The holes are not pre drilled or tapped.

Buckeye,
You can get the emblem of you want AC or Cobra from Finish Line. They have both steering wheel and shifter emblems.

For Boudy-

You little turd, I'm paying $1000 for a vinyl top.

Reg tells me it is a 4-5 hour install.

Thought it would be a "snap-on."

For $1,000 I want six Nordic virgins massagging...

Some thing.

It will come together

One important bit of advice that isn't in the manual.

THE ENGINE MOUNT GOES INTO THE REAR HOLE!!

You'd think it would be obvious.

Never worked with Exhaust springs. So the headers and sidepipes dont just bolt up together?

Yep, I forgot about the springs. Reg has the Yamaha part number. The headers and sidepipes are slip fit. They used to bolt on and so many guys complained about reaching the bolts in a tight area, they changed them to slip fit. Well, those guys screwed up a good deal for the rest of you.

Todd: I promised you a trip to OK to help install your top and windshield. I just don't think I can pull off the virgin thing... Hell, I'm not sure there are any legal ones left anyway. Hope your repair is in the works. Maybe you can make the Austin meet in March. Good luck... BTW, remind me to email you.

Sid: Yes, there is a manual. Should you need any advise or have any questions, you are not alone. There is this forum and here is my email and phone number:

Don't hesitate to use them.

Got snake,
When you get ready to connect your header springs I found this to be a easy way. First place a light inside the fender well where the headers are so you can see the tabs for the springs. Hook the spring on the header side tab, take a piece of electrical wire prox 14/16 gauge about 24" long. Bend it in a loop and slide it from the outside of the car through the side pipe cut out hole in the fender. Hook the loop in the wire to the hook in the spring and from the outside of the car just pull on the wire until the spring has expanded enough to slip over the tab on the side pipe.
Once the spring is in place release one side of the wire and just slide it out.
It sure beats trying to fight with pliars inside the fender well.

Thanks David! This information is going to help all future BDR owners...who are as slow as I am!

A coat hanger also works great. It is rigid so that you can control the end and move it as needed. I use the ones from the cleaners with the cardboard tube. Take off the tube and it's already bent into a hook to grab the spring.

Sid: Don't worry, It's a pleasure for me to help out anytime. (Well, maybe not a 2 AM.) So call or email whenever.
