Default BDR # 230 simply awesome

Just wanted to say what a blast I'm having in my new BDR what a car. Big block original 427 side oiler close to 600 HP 4 speed top loader and drives incredible. This car is everything I ever dreamed of and more. Thanks to all who gave me insight to buy one!

Wow, this is the first I've heard of a big block in a BackDraft. What modifications had to be done to install it? I was told by BDR that a BB would not and could not be fit into their chassis. Did you do the installation? How 'bout some pics.

what did they have to do to get that engine in there? BDR's come with mounts for small blocks right?

427FE is not a big block. They have always fit. The 4.6 DOHC fits...

When you are looking for overall value you can't beat a 302 or 351W based motor, so that's how most of them get finished.

Cashburn my car is a big block and it will fit several mods had to be made and I did not do the install myself. Jeff ogilvie in Sarasota did it and did a great job. If I knew how to load the pics I would put them on. I have a steel block ( high nickel ) is what they told me. I think from 1965 or there about.

Sounds like big block envy to me, Cashburn. You can tell my FE that it's not a big block, but I'll bet it won't listen to you.

It is an FE. The mods were probably for the Toploader, not the FE. Glad you are now enjoying it.

It's a funny debate since the true definition of a "big block" hinges on the displacement ... a term that no longer holds weight given the increased displacement of today's "small blocks".

What is a 351C then? Is the 4.6 a "big block" too? It sure looks big

airvolts, you're not following. I'll agree that it is not a small block.

Nice!! Looks like a beautiful clean install. What is the text book definition of a big block? If it is based on cubic inches where does it begin?

Thanks

When I first met and spoke with Reg almost 4 years ago he said they didn’t suggest putting a BIG BLOCK into a BDR, because of the weight difference between a small block and a BIG BLOCK never mentioning cubic inch displacement. With the BMW suspension he said the additional weight up front could cause actual steering problems and that’s why a BIG BLOCK was not offered at that time in a BDR, has this changed?
