Kevin

My E-M was set up with gas struts but they had long since died when I got the car. The previous owner used curtain rods with little rubber feet! After a long serch, I stumbled on the McMaster site and they had a ton of struts. I measured the old ones and took a wild shot at 50# struts. Overshot that one! It was too much pressure to close the hood and opening it was like a scene out of Monty Pythons "Holy Grail" with the cow catapult. Returned them with zero hassle to McMaster and they sent 30# struts that work excellent. they even sent them on the honor system as I hadn't sent the other ones back yet. For mounting hardware, they have a section in the same area as the struts. For the hood mounts, the originals used something off a Ford hatchback but I couldn't trace the Ford part number. I ended up going to a junk yard and crawling in every Escort hatch back I coould find and got lucky. They were from an early 70's Escort Pony. Took em out and the guy running the place gave them to me for my effort. It was kind of fun cruising the boneyard which had been the source of so many trips for parts in my poor youth. I'll have to get to the shop and measure the length for you tomorrow after work. Too cold right now with the temp hovering around zero.

Stay tuned

Tim
