Question How have you modified your Backdraft?

Hello,

I'm just curious as to what modifications some of you have made to your Backdraft cars aside from things that can be ordered or are standard. I love our car and am happy with the price we paid but I am sure we will be making some modifications in the future, so we are looking for ideas. Some of the things we are thinking about are sterring wheel, brighter tail lights, shifter handle, stereo etc.

Thanks,

Lets See:
Wooden rim steering wheel
Seat belts thru firewall (I started that trend)
Custom headers
Covered front of frame with sheet aluminum(polished) to accent the stainless already in place (Look in my gallery)
Heavier angle for tranny mount (mine flexed from factory)
Hydraulic throw out bearing instead of slave cylinder
Optima battery, therefore no worrys about acid leaks
New side pipes that has no backpressure (little on the loud side though)
BimmerWorld 3.73 posi rear-end

That is about all I can think of right now.

Tinkering is half of the fun....
Don's seatbelt set up is the bomb! It's on my list to do.
My next to do is a push starter button now that my cam is in.

Mine is from (for) a Honda S2000.

Come on down, I show you what the new cars coming from us are getting. Greg from Dayton will be the first to receive our new design slave cylinder and bracket. Also some additional shrouding.

I installed a Mota-Lita style wood wheel and a spacer to move it closer to me.

I made some brackets to move the rack to the center of the car so I could turn both right and left.

Installed some better cooling fans on the radiator so I won't overheat when driving under 30 mph.

Installed a cigarette lighter style power point to keep all those battery powered things charged up on long trips.

Pulled the sending unit out of the gas tank and fiddled with it to get a better idea what's actually in the tank. Now when it's on E, it's empty.

Hi Gatorac,

Curious, why did you add the spacer for the steering wheel?
Is the Mota-lita not dished as much as the BDR wheel or did you just want to move it closer to you? Where did you mount the cig. lighter, I have been thinking about the same thing for an ipod.

Thanks for the info,

I'm 6'1" and the steering wheel was always too far away for a comfortable driving position. Either that or the pedals where too close.

I put the cig lighter in the lip at the bottom of the dash. It faces down and you can't even see it. I used the fuel pump circuit to power it since I am using a mechanical fuel pump.

Buckeye Cobra:

The Honda S2000 starter button, what did you use for the rear of the button to plug into ? Checked once, the Honda dealer said the plug receptacle only comes as part of the wiring harness at approx $350.

I added the new hood prop rod to mine. The gas hood strut would not hold the hood up at car shows when the wind picked up, I left the gas strut in place becuse it gave a greater hood opening and it is less restrictive when tinkering under the hood while in the garage. And oh yes, I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express ONCE. Ha Ha.
The seat belt thing is also on my to do list.

Here goes,

Black leather steering wheel. (I got tired of the "orange" wood wheel)
Heated and bent shifter so it doesn't point at the moon in 2nd and 4th gear.
Modified seat belt mounting points
Had an oil cooler and aluminum shroud installed.
Added locking glove box

Next projects:

LSD differential about 3.50 if possible
Tonneau cover to be made
Replace hood shock with prop rod
Update door mounts to eliminate shaking
Find about a 500hp engine to replace my 400hp engine (power sickness)
Find a hat or something to protect my wife's hair and not leave hat head when she gets out of the car. (no rush on this, I enjoy my time alone!)
Maybe add stipes to the all black paint. Color? Any suggestions?
Add an additional set of 17" wheels for appearance and handling

Silver. Almost any shade will look awsome.

Skip,

I agree with Jim. Go with a Silver stripe. Take a look at my Cobra in the gallery

Good luck.

Add up the cost of the gauges and switches and you can have it for that if you really want it. It does not reflect since we put the swirl pattern in. Tom has it on his, he has not run into anything yet
