Default I'm Back!!!

Hello from sunny (for now) Iraq! I am finally back on CC. The Army had the site blocked for about a month due to a file that was suspect. Not to worry, there was nothing wrong with the file and as an additional safety measure, it was removed.

Anyway, my car #499 is, or soon will be on the big boat. As anyone that has been on Jay's site can see, we applied some special touches to #499. There are more to come once the car reaches Jay's shop. I can't wait to see the photos once Jay and company get to work on it!

Talk to you all later.

Gun Doc

Gun Doc,

Sorry to hear you are in the Sand Pit while the car is being built! Jay will take good care of it and we look forward to seeing it completed.

Just wanted to say THANKS to all of you that are serving in the armed forces.
I have a son over there right now and is scheduled to come home in April. Looking foward to seeing him and drinking some beer!

We will drink a beer (ok, alot of beer) for you and all that serve. Our prayers are with you all.

Semper Fi!

Thanks for the kind words, thoughts and prayers. It has been a rough week for our aviators over here...

Fred, I too return the end of April. I am really looking forward to seeing the car for the first time! I am torn now between having Jay ship the car, or driving up to Connecticut in my pick-up and towing it home. I am not sure I could rent a suitable trailer in, or near Connecticut for a one way trip to Texas. Any other folks out there have any thoughts on the subject?

Fly up and drive it home or drive up with a friend and caravan home.

In the mean time, keep your head down and the belt feeding.

Gun Doc,

Ditto to what xlr8or said. I will always treasure the memory of the drive back home from Connecticut (even if it did rain most of the way) when I picked mine up from Jay.

You guys out there in the "sand pit" please take care of each other.

We really appreciate what you folks are doing for all of us.

Cheers!
Dave

I would really love nothing more than to drive my BDR home. I don't think it is doable, however, for a number of reasons: The car would not yet be registered, or titled. I would have to find hotels that have secure parking, as the drive from Connecticut to Central Texas is at least two very long days. Finally a 1800 mile drive as a shake down cruise is pushing it.

Has anyone out there rented a trailer one-way to haul their car? If so, what company did you use?

Thanks,

Gun Doc

I just came across on PCS orders from Boston to San Diego, you can stay at BEQ/BOQ the whole way. Or my car was transported from Fl to Ca for $1500.

You won't find a better couple of guy's as Brian and Jay to help you out.
I would suggest having it shipped or trailered. All those mile's would kill you. Yuo might wake up one morning in some hotel and see it gone. And you need a couple hundred miles to get the bugs out of it. I'm heading over today to see the boy,s I'm lucky i live 15 minutes from them, so when i need something done, Brian is always there to help. I can't wait to see your car.

Steve,
I can put you in touch with Shaun in Texas. He purchased #329 from us and actually purchased a trailer somewhere in PA or WV and picked it up on the way and then trailered everything home. I believe the trailer was cheaper than the enclosed transport and not much more than the trailer rental. And he got a trailer out of the deal.

Four of us bought a car hauler trailer for $1550 here in North Alabama. Local company in Huntsville manufactured the trailer. Metal bed, ramps, tie downs, dual axles, nice trailer. We have used it to pick up a hurricane Kit. Trips to the paint shop. Trip to Miss. to pick up 5 390 motors. We have got our money out of this trailer. If you can buy one, use it and sell it later. A used trailer will bring $1000.
Put a couple thousand shake down miles on your Cobra and then drive it to the London Cobra Show!!!

See you in June in London

Dwight

Jay, That would be good. I would like to hear his thoughts on the trip.

Dwight, I like your idea, as well. My wife would like to visit her uncle in New Market, AL once I get home. She is from Mass, so we could make a big loop. Only trouble is she is a high school teacher and school dosen't get out until June...Two road trips, perhaps??

If there is anything any of us can do along your journey too...give us a heads up. If you find a trailer on eBay or other local place before your trip, we can certainly check it out, pick it up, etc for you....
