Rubber side pipe hangers for a BDR
Has anyone found a replacement rubber hanger in between the sidepipes and bracket. Mine were not lined up putting them under great stress and one has ripped. Made new adjustable brackets but now I can't find the rubber. Tried Midas, NAPA, AutoZone with no luck. Ever tried searching for a part on the internet without a year and make of a car. A royal pain in the AZZ !!!

Can you post a picture of it, maybe others can help.

Check out the Vintage web site. Jay has a pic of a better looking setup than I have on mine with what looks like a better rubber hanger. Maybe he knows where they got them.

Call Jay at Vintage. They stock lots of parts and if they don't have it they can probably tell you where to get it. ;)

I went one better than that. I asked over on the official Backdraft site (www.backdraftboys.com) and didn't get an answer there thats why I came here. I figured there were more owners over here.

I found those on Bimmer world and ordered a set. Their about the size of my palm... HUGE. ($20 down the drain) Here is a pic of the only one still intact... but barely http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...836_Small_.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...837_Small_.jpg Put a dime next to it for size. I saw those pictures of Jay's mounting and will probably do the same when I get a new set. Would really like to see some kind of thread that lists parts and where you were able to find them. Maybe have the part #'s, make and model of car. I know the master cylinder came from a mazda truck but what year, model...I know its listed somewhere but I have to search through a bunch of threads to find it. We should have one thread named PARTS and then when you need something you could look there. The radiator is something else that could be listed, tie rod ends, steering linkage knuckles....things like that. It gets expensive ordering parts to find out there wrong... |
VW hangers
Aftermarket VW dealers make rubber hangers that have a chain embedded in them. They are unbreakable!! call wolfsport 800 342 8669. they are hard to get on because they don't stretch much But they don't come off.

Guys, I have had two break on my car........I found out that they break due to the exhausts moving away from the chassis and strecthing the mount.
Sometimes when they are fitted the rubbers are slightly damaged (Nicked or cut)due to the tight fit when sliding over the metal mounts. To cure this I bought a new one form my local parts dealer, (Its a very common exhaust mounting rubber) andTo prevent it breaking again or being damaged, during fitment I coated it with normal hand cleaner and slipped it onto the mounts NO problem....and since then it hasnt broken again......... Hope this helps you guys. |
True,
I modified my sidepipe hangers by taking out the bend and drilling the hangers. They are then bolted with grade 8 bolts with crown lock nuts with some universal muffler hanger rubber straps cut to fit. Use as many rubber strap pieces between the hangers to level the pipes. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...55FD801076.JPG If you still need the original rubber rings, I may still have them in storage, you are welcome to them. I never used them. |
I'm with Wayne, I just drilled and bolted mine. My exhaust outlet on drivers side was hitting the body with the rubber mount. No problems since.

Well.... after months and months of searching parts stores and the internet I finally found the exact part I've been looking for if anybody is interested or in need of same.
http://www.innerauto.com/store/produ...nger&catalog=w Next time I would just like to see a little more help with requests for part numbers from BDR. To all those that answered, thanks but I just wanted to keep it simple and uniform. |
I ordered the hangers based on the make/model you used from rockauto and got something completely different. So be careful on who you order from since there are some varieties to the parts sold for this application.

I called BDR in florida for some for a customers car--no problem
don't remember what they charged but shipping was more than the parts Also did the same for a drive shaft when noone could id the parts Jerry |
glad to see your still with us Nor cal al. Wayne and I missed you at wscb.

Old thread... but maybe I have some helpful info... as I've been dealing with the same issue... and I couldn't find it addressed elsewhere.
It seems the exhaust hangers are: AP Exhaust Products part# 8511... or possibly... Bosal Exhaust part# 255525. Both look to be very close... with a 1 3/4" diameter... x 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" length. I've verified the measurements for the AP# 8511... and it's a match to what I received from BDR. I've not verified the measurements for the Bosal# 255525. From what I can tell... neither is in high demand... and availability is scarce. Maybe that's why BDR runs out of them from time to time... and only allows you to buy no more than two at a time. As someone above mentioned... verify what you're getting & good luck. |
I also bought a set for 255-525 hangers but the center web was pretty thin and the rubber pretty soft. Didn't think they'd last very long.
Removed my frame mounted hangers and redrilled them to line up up with the sidepipe hangers. I use Bosal 255-481 thru Rockauto. $1.37 each. I also wrap the rubber isolator with a hose clamp just barely tight enough to keep the clamp from walking to act as a reinforcement of the rubber. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...psmpnzsnco.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...pscsbnxzz8.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...psgib5fqs5.jpg Or you can buy them thru Back Draft $11.99 each. If you would put a "hose clamp" around the rubber hanger (while it is in place)and snug it down, you should have no problems. I'm coming up on 60k and 12 years with no problems at all.
