Check to make sure your suspension is installed correctly...

I have been meaning to post this sooner...last week, but have been extremely busy.

While at Custom Alignment to have the front and back aligned, several issues were pointed out to me with the car.

On the control arms, the bolt that attachs the arm to the wheel was inserted the wrong way, causing the cam adjustement washer inside to wear out with no ability to control the toe. We had to replace the cam adjustment washer, and turn the bolt around so that it was inserted from front to back. This should have been something that the installers in Florida caught, but from my experience, you should check it out, because it caused other issues with my suspension (which have already been documented).

On the trailing arms, the adjustment slots on mine, yours may be different, did not allow the tech to fully adjust the alignment. The slot needs to be widened Backdraft (REG/TONY). The alignment is off by a 1/4 inch, just to get it to ZERO. The trailing arm will need to be removed, so that the plate holding it (the actual part that is adjusted) can be unbolted and the slots can be cut with a torch or redrilled. The real problem is that the body of the car sits right on top, and will need to be unbolted and lifted in order to avoid damage.

I have used these in the past for my M3 cars. but you can install them on your E36 suspensions. They work real well, safety the lock nuts and you're good to go. SPC makes a good one as well. The track cars I have set up uses these. Here is a link.

It was built in the April/May time frame of 2006. I just did not take delivery until December of 2006.

Just a little history, #139 had a steering wheel "quiver" after delivery, fall, 2004.

Called Reg, he suggested a full 4-wheel alignment based on BMW 325I specs.

(After the LR wheel fell off in traffic due to finger-tight lug nuts, my TX dealer's fault, not BDR!)

My alignment guys, who now worship the car, dialed her in, but the "quiver was still there.

The cure was simple. I had aftermarket 17" sticky Nitto tires, and when I, after advice from drag-racing friends dropped the inflation pressure to 18 PSI, the quiver disappeared and at highway speeds she tracks like Grandpa's Buick, hands-off the wheel.

Sometimes big problems have simple solutions. Amazing.

I got a set of these on my BDR. I had to change to them after getting the race suspension specs from Tony Martin when I first got the car. Really helps with adjustment. before you ask what the specs are I'm still looking for them!!! I wish I had kept a copy!

Have had simliar problem with mine. After alignment and balance a couple times still that highway shake. Ended up being bad bushing in right strut. I'm sure it has been that way since new. Ordering new bushing today from NAPA.
