How do I adjust the e-brake on my bdr? When I remove a lug nut from the wheel, just the nut alone comes off not giving me any access to the adjustment star. Are these self adjusting? Any Ideas? Thanks.
Robert,
If you remove tire it's the best. Then remove allen bolt and pull off rotor. Adjust star till you can still get rotor on but when you pull handle rotor gets tight and you can't remove. Myself pulled handle up two clicks so they wouldn't be too tight then adjusted star so I could just get the rotor back on. Do both sides the same way.

There is a website called bimmerdiy, or something like that It has a detailed description of how to adjust the parking brake on an E-36 BMW. There is no need to remove the brake caliper or rotor. Use two lug nuts on one stud & jamb them together. remove the stud from the rotor. The star wheel can be accessed through the hole. You can then adjust the E-brake shoes to whatever resistance or clearance you desire. Us e loctite on the stud when you replace it.

While removing the stud sounds kind of drastic you have to realize that on a stock BMW they use lug bolts, not studs and nuts like or our BDR's. So the directions for adjusting the e-brake is a lot clearer and somewhat easier to accomplish.
