Don't have a radio either. You can have one ear bud on in california and there is a few mfg's that make a mix bud (two into one) that is completely legal in Ca. My music will always come from the side pipes! # 1 on the charts four years running.

No radio for me too, I used my phone MP3 and good set of headphone disguise at phone headset / so far no problem with LEO.

Huh? what? I can't hear you! Seriously, I wear ear plugs so as not to damage my hearing on long drives. Radio would be useless with 3 inch mufflers.

I wear earmuff type hearing protectors when I am on long drives. People think it is about the noise from the sidepipes, but mine are quiet and unobtrusive. It is, however, about the constant "chuffing" in my ears from the wind as the car moves through the air. I have a noise induced hearing loss from driving tractors and hunting with shotguns as a young man, so I am interested in keeping what hearing I do have left, but there is another benefit to wearing some sort of hearing protection while driving....less general fatigue. The ear has a muscle in it that tenses up and disassociates the three bones that transmit the vibrations from the eardrum to the inner ear. Like all muscles, they have only one action, to shorten, and when the brain senses a sound of sufficient intensity that it might cause damage that stapedius muscle tenses up to dampen the intensity of sound transmitted. However, like all muscles, it can only hold in a state of contraction for a limited amount of time and so it quickly fatigues and stretches out, releasing its tension and allowing the alignment of those three bones to become more solid. The loud sounds are then again transmitted to the inner ear, so avoiding that constant tensioning and releasing of the stapedius muscle will leave you less fatigued in general, particularly at the end of a day-long drive. You would be surprised how much better you will feel at the end of a long ride if you will wear hearing protection...try it, you'll see.

But, yeah, you're right, my radio is useless at speed. However, an Ipod with a set of earbuds under those earmuff type hearing protectors is a decent plan ...just be mindful of the volume to protect your hearing.

OK Doug you got me. I just think there is too much going on while driving one of theses cars. Ear buds work TOO well and prevent any other sounds (good or bad) from being heard. Sometimes I just use the little foam ear plugs.

Agree. I use earplugs to reduce the wind noise more than I use earbuds. Listening to music using the arbuds is good for a longer drive, but there always seems to be differences in the recording volume and you definitiely don't want to be messing with the volume control while driving.

I guess most owners say "shut up and listen to the engine" But I (remember it was the 80's) always liked the Lamborghini ads with the Alpine system. And I thought if it's good enough for a Lamborghini then I should have one in my Hot Rod that is shaped like a Cobra. But I went a little different direction I did a plug in inside the helmet intercom system that is used by motorcyclist that is tied into the stereo system or flip a switch on the cord and talk to each other. Around town the system is not real good ,who wants to wear a helmet while going to the store, but on the highway it works great no wind or exhaust fatigue. I would like to upgrade and have some kind of hands free voice activated and the whole plug in factor is cool.

I have a stereo and I have no problems hearing it on the freeway or anywhere else. As a former car stereo installer I advise anybody thinking of going this route to go big or go home. Some of the new digital amps from jl audio are extremely small with big output and some of the new speakers have great output as well. I'm running 2 amps totaling 600 watts roughly which sounds big but it's not all that much. 100 solid watts to each of the 4 6.5" and 300 or so watts to the 8" woofer between the seats. Had I not done at least the 4 speakers with a solid amp to them I would not be satisfied with the stereo and would not be able to hear it over the pipes. Amplification is necessary. Hope this helps.

I have a stereo with a speaker on each kick panel and two 6x9 between the seats covered by the carpet. There is a 300 watt amp behind the dash which drives the two 6x9,s At 80 mph my motor is doing 2100 rpm and I can hear and enjoy the tunes
I also have , softtop, pb, heated seats, and, Oh I do have some black driving gloves....
