Does you have a radio in your cobra?
Hi guys, I was thinking the other day about putting a radio in my cobra. Maybe a basic CD player with speakers. but the more I think about it, im not sure if I would be happy with the result. My two concerns would be:
1. Would I even be able to hear it when im driving?
2. Would I be happy with the way it looks?
So out of curiosity, does anyone here have one installed? or have any general thoughts on it?

I do have a radio installed with a built-in CD player with mp3 playback capability. There are four speakers, two under the dash and two mounted on the rear bulkhead between the seats. Admittedly, when driving especially at highway speed, I can't really hear the music well enough to appreciate it but when sitting still or parked under a shade tree, I like having the capability to listen to my favorite tunes. As shown in the photo below, I fashioned a radio surround out of sheet aluminum and covered it with leatherette to match the dash and I think it looks fine.

It would have to be pretty powerful to hear it over the engine and wind noise. I just use ear buds...not legal, but it also doubles as my phone headset.

Install a radio in Cobra?
Don't forget the soft top, heated seats, cup holders, A/C, PS, PB, PW, PA and, of course, the black leather driving gloves.

It seems Backdrafts have options for all that you listed.

I have one installed in the trunk with a wired remote. Have a mini stereo cable running to the front which I plug my ipod in. I love it and listen to it all the time, not alot of base but with the sidepipes you dont need it. I have no problem hearing mine and it saves alot of abuse on the tires since i dont get bored. total cost with amp $300.

Stereo? Nah, never thought about it and would never listen to it anyway. The sound of the sidepipes never gets old.
Made the mistake of paying a bloody fortune for a "Shaker 1000" in my GT500 several years ago. It may not be the greatest bang for the buck, but still fairly decent. Problem is, the supercharger and muffler-deletes sound a lot better than anything I could play via the stereo, so it just sits there collecting dust and adding weight to an already heavy car.

i had one and enjoyed it, yes it had to be pretty loud to hear over the pipes.
i had to remove the speakers to install the shoulder harness, so i'm plotting to re-do that aspect of the radio.
i am considering putting in a satellite radio, so i don't have to listen to dribble.
hard finding a solid radio station to play oldies, and to carry a bunch of CDs sucks

I'm sort of like Bruce. I put a lot of effort into installing a completely hidden radio/stereo in my car. I put the control panel for my Custom Audio unit in the glovebox and the amplifier unit behind panels in the trunk. (It has a wireless RF remote.) I even used an amplified antenna hidden in the trunk. Everything works well, except you just can't hear it on the road, so I listen to it when I'm working on the car or cleaning it!
I probably wouldn't go to the trouble if I were doing it all again. The engine sounds are absolutely enough!

I does!
Disclaimer: I bought the Cobra as-is...would have done a better job of the install if I had done the work, but for now it is functional and once the car goes up on jackstands for the winter there is a new dashboard and console assembly in its near future!
It is a bit outdated, I admit. The verbal history on the car is that it was assembled in 1994, so no surprise that there is not a CD player.
Even MORE emphatic disclaimer!!!!: This has to be one of the sloppiest installs I've ever seen!
If I am just puttering around town, I *****-foot the car so as not to attract the attention of the ever-vigilant police force, so I can hear the radio just fine. The quality of sound is low, as you can imagine by the speakers, but it is nice to have some tunes now and then.
I will definitely install some sort of sound system when I redo the dash and add the console...like very much the idea of a hidden, remote controled head unit with just a mini-stereo plug-in for an IPod or MP3 player. I also like the idea of a Sirius/XM type radio receiver...however, when on the road there is no hearing the radio b/c of the wind noise and the contributions of the sidepipes, so even if I did have the Sirius/XM subscription it would be a seldom-used feature on the roadster.
Cheers!
Dugly

I have stereo (L&R) sidepipes, does that count? Otherwise no stereo, no PS, no PB, no heater, no A/C, nothing but engine, tranny and rear gears.

Earbuds while driving are not legal in sunny California.
