DMVExpert,
Quite a few of us are not from California. Is your greatest expertise with California or with registering cobras, regardless of the state/location? Many of us about to buy a cobra have a healthy fear of BOTH the registration AND the insurance processes. I happen to live in the People's Republic of Barney Fwank, and I am just about ready to send in a healthy deposit on a cobra. If there's any information you have that can assist me---AND non-Californians--it would be greatly appreciated.
The last time an information thread got going (about insurance) it was an education in and of itself. Hope what you started gathers momentum.

My expertise is in California, I have been doing registration here for 16 years. You can get a "title only" from California in your name and take that title to the state you live in and do your registration. The process is not a problem for me to process in California, very easy actually. Then once I have your California title in hand then you will not have a problem registering it as a Cobra in another state. If you would like to discuss specific details call me and leave a message and I will get back to you. This is my message number, as I am out and about doing DMV related services, and am not in the office very much during the day. Thanks for your interest.

Dee

FFR factory is in Peoples Republic of Taxachusetts. They surely must know how to do this.

Question

Dee,
How much do you charge to register a newly puchased SPF under the new CA SB100 bill? I can't get through to your posted phone number either. Thanks!

I recommend all title registration matters be handled in private.
This is no place to discuss this.

If this is a commercial enterprise, there are rules against that too.If it is a free service someone is providing because of their love of Cobras, that too should be disclosed, so we can all thank him.

Let's not forget about some of the difficulties of those who used Titles Unlimited.

Beware of any "service" that will title your car as a 1965 in CA. It is all fraud and the DMV will catch you. With SB100 there is no need to do anything illegal and risk it.

If Dee's service is using SB100 and just taking the leg work out of the process for you then it is ok. If her service is working title magic then beware..........

Mary is right. Beware. If it's just a favor to get help get through the tough California rules, fine. But if it's registering a car in one state, just so you can re-register it in your state as a '65, that is called "title washing" and is illegal. Be careful!!

DMVexpert,

Where did you go. I'd like to ask you some questions. Like how can I get a used car in from another state via SB-100. I have other questions, but it looks like you are no longer responding.

Default Dee is not responding

Dee is not responding to my voice mail. I did get an email that said to give her a call. I've left a couple messages in the last couple of days. No response.

I have a feeling I will become an expert. My car is shipping soon (possibly today).

Allen

Something I don't understand. ( I'm also waiting for my SPF. My cobra should be on the east coast today and will be shipped across country to Reno. I should be able to pick it up the first part of Sept ). My cobra's number is #1422, and yours is #783. Is your's a used car? I'm just curious.

Lew

P.S. I reread you reply. I guess you are buying a used cobra. Anyhow, its going to nice to have another SPF in the neighorhood.

Lew,

Yep used. Should be shipping any day now. I'm working on the insurance at this time. I also have another DMV contact that can help if you run into a problems. You shouldn't have any issues since your car has never been licensed. SB-100 applies only to new cars as I understand it.

Allen, SB100 says "initial" registration in CA. You may be ok bringing a out of state car in. Best idea is to call the DMV and ask.

Hmm. Initial sounds good to me. I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for the idea.

P.S. Has anybody successfully brought a car into California via sb100 that was previously registered in another state.
