Default insurance

Anybody have any suggestions about a reliable Cobra insurance carrier in the northern California area?

I just had my everyday carrier insure my car. I gave them the bill of sale and they insured it as a 1965 AC Cobra. Regular coverage. My insurance company is AIG. When I'm through adding value to the car, I will have it appraised and reinsure at the new value. Is there some "special Cobra" insurance available?

I have all my coverage (cars, homeowners) through State Farm and asked them about insuring my Brock Coupe. They quoted me a range of $500 to $800 per year. There was another thread on this some time ago (February-ish?) with some comments about making sure you get an "agreed value" policy since it is hard to properly value these types of vehicles. Try a search in the "Coupe Talk" forum and I bet you'll find it.

I have Grundy for my SPF. $720/year, no mileage restrictions, agreed value $65k. I changed from American Collectors to Grundy because of the no mileage restriction.

I asked my dad who's been an insurance broker for 37 year and a new Superperformance owner and has done some research. I asked him for his opinion and this is what he found.
There are several insurance carriers available. Grundy (min Cobra value $75,000), J. C. Taylor, American Collectors, Classic Auto, Hagerty (no Cobra replicas) and Sneed Insurance. They all have websites. Read the fine print carefully, most policies have limitations on usage, annual mileage, garaging and min driver age. The lowest price may not be the best policy. Many of the websites have incomplete explanation on policy limitations. A good agent might help. You definitely want agreed value, not stated amount.

good luck

Lots of good info here. My experience was disappointing with the "specialists" with our types of cars. When I contacted my State Farm rep (I also have homeowners and Corvette coverage with him) he quoted me a very reasonable price. I do have a limited mileage restriction, which works for me. Agreed value is important. Rich

I am using AAA. It is insured and priced like any of my other cars. I have no mileage or usage limitations. I did provide an estimated number of miles driven per year from which they based some portion of my premium.

I went thru my regular carrier Farmers Insurance. The price I have is about the same as the others $700 per year. My insurance agent even had me do a detailed apprasial on my car with back up on the value of the car, pictures the hole nine yards. That way there is no dispute on the value of the car if it is ever stolen, totaled, or burned up. I also have a mileage restriction. But it is never checked.

I too have my car (in fact all my cars) with CSAA. No restrictions, and it doesn't cost any more to insure than my ten year old pickup.

Wawenesa. It is the third (of four) least expensive of our cars for insurance. Agreed value and just another car as far as restrictions go except I can not use it as my regular commuter at this rate.
