Default SPF 2734 Update --Engine is IN.

Greetings fellow Cobra dudes.

Project "Lilly" , AKA SPF 2734 has a motor and tranny!

After a test fitting session on saturday to verify that the motormounts were going to be at the right (correct angle) and hunting down some last minute clutch dowel pins, The 327F is in!!!

-- and we are bolting up headers now (had to weld in a O2 bung, --and working on the Fuel Injection installation as well as a thousand other things. )

So major stuff; Engine, Trans, Driveshaft, all IN!

Hyd Clutch cyl is mocked up (using tremec BH from 95 cobra R, and a "pull type cylinder from willwood.)

new 41MM rear calipers installed from willwood.

-- I am awaiting a -4AN braided line to tie in the master clutch cyl to the slave.

alternator (95Amp Ford Gen 3.) is mocked up and I am finalizing mounting and wiring. Sepperate fuze blocks and a pair of circuit breakers installed for FI and MSD systems

water pump is mocked up and I have some hoses to cut and ends to tighten.

Bummers & Cool Stuff

1. Boss 302 block (new) has some small oddities that are making things difficult;

A. Threads for petcocks on the block (where the knock sensor goes are a different thread than a regular 302-351W, got to tap it out to 3/8NPT, with the engine in the car.

B. 1/2 pipe fitting where the oil pressure sender port is taken from instead of 3/8 NPT, requiring a reducer.

2. World Products Windsor Jr. heads wont accept a 1" header bolt I need to go find a bunch of 3/4" stainless ones.

3. Wait'n on a Pump. Lately several Edelbrock water pumps have 'leaked new out of the box, and Flow cooler impellers have had issuesl... which means STEWART!!! (awaiting a Stewart 16133 as a WP -a nice unit)

4. Snake-Bite Performance SPF bolt kits are rubbish, you can do better at OSH. they may be grade 8, but you can get what they get from OSH.

summit sells a neat engine bolt kit in stainless and AMK makes engine kits that are very nice.

Cool Stuff I discovered;

1. Head Shielding the tunnel and foot boxes with the additional layer of heat shield came out awesome (pictures coming).

2. Hitachi makes a High Tourque mini starter for a SBF and it is of great quality and cheaper than the FR starter. PN will be in sepp entry.

3. 1993 5.0L Cobra FI intake (on a 5.0L block) clears NON-SCOOP SPF hood by 3/4" minimum at front corner of plenum, even with heat shielding under the hood, -- so I have room for a phenolic spacer to get me some FE valve cover room. ( I will explain later )

4. 1993 Cobra intake top plenum is reversible so the intake inlet can be on the drivers side.

5. Rear motor mount base frame holes can be used to also support a sub mount for the hydraulic clutch slave.

6. Wilwood clutch slave cyl takes a std fine thread rod for attachment, and NPT 1/8" for hose.

7. summit sells a 1/8NPT to -4AN female fitting (sweetness) dont lose the metric to -4AN brass fitting that comes with the car, it is hard to find.

8. Mallory Fuel rails, FR 24# injectors and misc sensors went in like cake.
(dont forget to dip your FI's in ATF before inserting them into fuel rails , or manifolds, it makes the job go easier and lubes the seals.

9. if you have to the undercar SPF headers, they CAN go in with the engine in the car. (oops)

10. we should be able to fire it up inside september.

Update 9-29-08 ;

Issues; awating a TPS female socket form ford (should be here)

and have a problem with an repro boss 302 oilpan that will mandate changing to a Fox-Body oil pan.

i uploaded a bunch of pics to my gallery so you can see the EFI setup, and progress.

the undercar exhaust is surprisingly complete, and seems to bolt in well.

check out my gallery for pics.
