Default Original 289 in 427 Street body

I was speaking with Tom Kirkham regarding an appropriate body and frame for an alternative fuel small block Cobra. Tom told me of a Cobra produced at the end of the original Shelby production that used a 289 in a 427 street body and frame. I had never heard of such a car. Does anyone have photos of such a car they would be willing to post?

The cars built and sold by AC (for sale over there, not sent to Shelby) were small blocks in big block bodies. I believe they were called "AC Sports 289". That's probably what he meant. Ned has a beautiful one.

From memory without looking it up, there were about 27 AC-built 289 cars on the coil-spring chassis with the so-called 427 body. Again from memory, they were narrow-hipped, wore wire wheels, and at least some retained the chin scoop even though they didn't require oil coolers. Remember that a number (perhaps fifty) of the Shelby 427 street cars omitted the scoop. At any rate, there does exist a historical precedent for a small block in a coil-spring chassis.

Sal was close on the name: "AC 289 Sports"
