Default SB100 - Brake & Lamp

My Superformance is in for the brake and lamp inspections and the man has 3 different issues. He is looking for back up lights, emergency lights, and a brake proportioning valve. I'm looking for help in verifing that these items are not required. He is doing his homework as well, but I would like to make sure he comes to the correct conclusion. So.......HELP.

Tell him that he needs to verify that your Cobra meets the Brake & Lamp inspection as if it were a 1965/66 vehicle.

If that does not work, then please post the city in which you live and someone might offer a suggestion of where to go to get a proper Brake & Lamp inspection.

BTW, the Brake & Lamp inspection have nothing to do with SB100. The B&L Inspection is because you are titling your Cobra as an SPCNS. SB100 is only for Smog purposes.

Good luck,
Randy...

Randy's right. The paperwork says year of vehicle...00. This DOES NOT MEAN 2000! it means no year assigned. The year is what the car replicates, or a 65 which means no back-up lights or porportioning valves. Cobras did not have those! All he should check is the lights that are there work and the rotors and pads are legal depths...THAT'S ALL!!!

Any other recommedations for Jerome regarding a brake and light inspector who understands what specs the car needs to meet?

I think Rodnock also lives on the Peninsula, so he may be able to offer a recommendation.

I had my B&L done during my car's stay at Hall Fabrication & Racing in Benicia. They may have outsourced it, but I'm not sure.

Maybe Steve (Panavia) has a local contact that could sign-off on the car?

B&L inspection . . . don't need no stinkin' B&L inspection!!!
Serioulsly, I never got one. Got my SB100 sequence number, did CHP VIN verification, BAR referee slapped on a sticker saying I was smog-exempt and done.

A B&L is required when the DMV says it's required. Some DMV offices/employees make a note of it and others do not. It's hit or miss. Procedurally, per the DMV, it's required, but they don't always mark it as needed.

I had the gall to send a box of crispy cremes to the chp office an hour before I went for my vin verifacation. The officer signed everything off including my brake and light. I think he was on a sugar high.............

We have a contact to get B&L done.

We ( The Ranch) cannot do it as it needs to be an CA accredited B&L.

Keep in mind most of the time B&L stations are used in the revival of a salvage vehicle.

I have heard of Cartex, they are supposed to me cool.

Let me get the contact info (as an option) and get that posted.

Hello Jerome,

I do not know where you here in NorCal.

I had my B&L done for my GT40 at the gas/inspection station in Livermore across the street from "Rock House" where we meet every Saturday morning for breakfast.

Web link for info http://cactuscarcare.com/

The owner knew the correct specs for the SPCN inspection and was reasonable on the cost.

One more thing on the SB100. I finally figured out the whole process. For those of you going on Jan 2nd and still having some confusion. Here is how it works.

1. You need to go the the DMV NOW before 1-2, and speak to the supervisor that is going to do the SB100 process. He/she needs to look at your paper work, get the fees that need to be paid and OK it or help you get it straight. You also need to make yourself known to this person so they will know you when you show up.

2. Don't get CHP or smog before you get your sequence number, not the number you get from the DMV on 1-2, but the number that is sent to you by the Sacremento DMV office, this is the number you use. You can't get smoged if you don't have this number from Sacremento.

3. You can get smog checked and CHP on the same day, you need to make an appointment for both. Do CHP before smog as the smog people need the VIN certificate from the CHP.
4. For smog, I was told by them that they don't even test your car after being certified by the CHP.
5. Be at the DMV before 8am even if you don't have an 8am appointment. Good Luck.

Steve,

1. You can take care of your CHP visit before you get an SB100 sequence number. The key is to verify that the DMV has the final CHP approved VIN in their system.

2. You're right on the BAR visit. There's no need to visit the BAR before you have your sequence number, unless you want to see how badly your car is going to fail.

3. You will need to visit the BAR after you have your SB100. They will do a sniffer test, plug your SB100 number into their system, and print out the smog exempt sticker that will be placed on your car (probably in the engine compartment).

Steve,
Let me know how the reverse light requirement works out for you. If he passes you without one then I guess I will be next in line. The guy that checked my car insists that a reverse light is required since it was constructed after 1969. Thanks
