I went in December to BAR in Modesto at the Western Campus of the Modesto JC and they were very courteous, informative and helpful...not to mention that they passed me through without a hitch ) Had to trailer it up and drive it around to their testing station in the back but it all worked out fine. Seems they were used to doing the SPCNs and were at ease with the process. Told me by just how much I was running a bit rich as an aside.

Good luck with your licensing - it's worth the headache!

Steve, I did the BAR twice (don't ask) last October at Evergreen College. The couple of guys that handle the actual testing were very nice, but rigid about the paperwork as would be expected. The first time I went it was a 3:10 PM appointment and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. The place was almost vacant. The second time I went was a 9:40 AM appointment and the atmosphere was chaotic. They also run a technical/mechanical school right there as well and I had about 100 people surrounding my car asking all sorts of questions, peering over and under the car, while I was waiting. Many of mechanics-in-training were not guys you would invite to your kid's birthday party. The parking inside the ref area is non-existent and ingress and egress was difficult at best. Bottom line: I would make a PM appointment, if possible. |

 | We're not talking about a few questions, but I was hammered with almost any question you can think of, while there were many, many others "checking out" the car. I had to keep one eye on the people "checking out" the car and answer the 200 questions.

My personalized plates are sitting at the DMV right now. It took three months to get them.
See you at the next gathering. |

RodKnock,

I have been to a fair number of BACC events recently, but have missed the ones when you were there, so I have not seen your car yet. I would like to 'check it out', but promise not to ask too many questions!

 Tim,
I really don't mind questions, but these questions were coming in rapid fire order from a dozen guys, while another herd was all over and under my Cobra. All the while I trying to answer questions from the guys that counted, which were the BAR refs.

The last BACC shindig I attended was held at the Harry's Hofbrau-SPF Dealership. I was unable to take my Cobra though. Its been down for about two months fixing and upgrading things.

 RodKnock,
I was at the SPF event & lunch as well but understood from your previous postings, that you were not able to bring your car. I'll keep an eye out for your car at up coming events, look forward to meeting you.

My cobra is like a software project. -- I think I am at rev 1.2 or so.
I figure if I get bored -- I can always upgrade the engine - trans etc.

The car is stable , except my MSD 6AL2 which just died this AM. (519 miles so far)

I still need to reschedule dyno day and get my chip retuned on my motor as I am starving for fuel 4K up.

weather should be good for a bajis-alices run this next week.

 Steve

I am still having problems with my SB-100. They have a number for me, but because of a problem I Had to send all my info to SAC on Jan 2nd. Called them today because I hadn't heard from them. They told me I need a lamp and break check, I have been told by different people that it is not needed. Any help here. |

It's hit or miss, depending on whether the DMV rep remembers to enter it in their system at the time you originally visit the DMV and pay your fees. Does any of your paperwork from the DMV indicate (at the top) that a brake and lamp inspections is required?

If the DMV is telling you need an inspection, you're probably going to need to comply.

 Steve G-
If your car is an SPF then it is no big deal. Brake and light certs are easy-- you must go to a CA brake and light cert station.

-- I have now trained Eserinis in santa clara how to process a SB100 B&L on a SPF.

--They charge a fee and hand you a slip (official slip) that you take to DMV.
