Default Rear end fitment

One of the issues I have always had is that the rear wheels on my car stick out a bit too far. Grinding the wheels has always been an option for about 800 bucks.. Ouch. Narrowing the rear seems a better way to go .. I currently have a 93 Mustang Gt 8.8 in the rear. According to my research it is 59.25 wide. I need to knock off about an inch on each side. I was told that that the Ranger 8.8 is 57" wide. Does anyone know if the ranger rear will drop into the CRII??

Alternately I am looking at having a custom 9" rear made by a company in Sacramento.

OFM, the GT 8.8 is the right rear end. My bet is your (wheel) off 'sets' are not enough OR are actually too much!

Hi Ed..

I realize it's the wheels that are causing the problem but seeing that I paid a small fortune for them and I like them I decided to narrow the rear. Besides I want to change my gears and brakes so I figure this is a good route. I spoke to the guy that made the wheels and said I could get another pair for the rear and he would grind them by a half inch so they sat in deeper but all total that would cost me 800 bucks shipped to my door.

Regardless of the dimensions of the Ranger 8.8, it does not have the bracketry needed for a Mustang four link set up as it is leaf springs. The cost of buying a good Ranger rear and transfering those brackets to the Ranger rear end would probably be about the same as or more than just having your existing rear end narrowed.

The ranger axles only come in 28 spline. I had my 8.8 narrowed & 31 spline axles made to fit. That way I ended up with what I wanted.

Craig

P.S.
The Ranger axles are also the shortest 8.8 factory axle.

I think the older mustang axels up to about 89 were narrower and were the ones to use
