I was always told to mount an electric pump below the level of the tank as it helps to siphon fuel from the tank..........dont know how true that is but it seems to work.
as for the red plastis lets see a pic. of it and maybe we can ID it and save you the heartache of haveing to pull the motor appart any farther.
project is looking good........keep up the good work.

Got to love those adjustable control arms! Your alignment guy sure will.

What are your plans for the roll bar?
Matt

Krewton 02-19-2010 05:50 PM

Matt,

I'm going with a 3.5" dual roll bar. Here is a shot of it before we tore down for powerder coating. I'm going with similiar side pipes, posted earlier. I think they will look good together.

DV,

I ran into a major setback today. I have purchased the 2001 cobra ECU had had reprogrammed. I also had the engine harness for the cobra. I found out today to complete that fuel injection setup with the factory ECU, you also have to have the entire wiring harness for dash, gauges and fusebox. After spending about 2 hours with Ford, and then another 2 hours with a custom cobra shop, I found out I'm still a long ways from completing this setup. (Tank modifications, Fuel Pump, customized harness, and further programming and tuning, which I don't have experience doing) What is the downside to just getting and MSD 6011 and putting a carberator, calling it good?

Frustrated and looking for some advise.

Krewton,
Although a lot of guys like the EFI, it is an awful lot of work. The only thing the tank needs modified for is a return line. Fuel ump has to be a consistent 45 PSI. I don't know what year your EFI system is but we installed many, many units without the gauge pods, etc. Maybe a new era? All we worried about was the ECM for an automatic or 5-speed.

At this point I see absolutely nothing wrong with an MSD 6AL, Electronic Distributor, and an auto choke Edelbrock. (This will create quite a stir, I am sure! :) )

OR, you could call a company called Mas Flo and they will sell you the computer, the engine harness, the computer, two 02 sensors and everything to hook it up. Finishing one up as we speak. Extremely simple and very high quality!

Most definitely will work with a 4.6

Check back here in about an hour and I'll post their phone number number.

Krewton

there is nothing wrong with a carb. and electronic ignition..............
I have always been one to keep things simple............
if i dont know anything about it i dont mess with it........
dont get me wrong computers have there place and can do wonderful
things BUT i dont know anything about them so i dont have one on my car.
if you dont feel comfortable with a computer in your car dont put one in...

Krewton 02-19-2010 07:31 PM

DV and Rusty Bob,
Thanks for the info. I'm starting to believe for my application, there isn't going to be any major reason to go EFI. For my 4.6, would the MSD 6011 be the best choice? I have the blaster coil in plugs.

Krewton,
I am not a "hands on guy" on the 4.6 or the new 6.0 MSD. Research certainly looks good, but using a like system on a "stacked" system the input from the laptop is critical. I'm sure some playing around will be necessary, But when done the gains can be remarkable.
In other words I'd love to try it out!

So...a 4.6 will fit in a CR-? Headers must be a trick!
DV

I can see it now; A Hartman type induction type intake, small supercharger and 500 plus ponies! Can't be bad !

rustyBob 02-20-2010 06:18 AM

Dont know anything about the MSD 6011........
you might call MSD and ask a truck load of questions........
good luck........

Double Venom 02-20-2010 08:47 AM

Rustybob,
They have a great web site........Everything has to be set from timing to retard to carb settings! Hi-Tech made easy :)

rustyBob 02-20-2010 12:07 PM

Ed when it comes to computers i'm on the hunt and peck plan.........i'm lucky to be able to post a responce and dont ask me to post pics. cause that aint happenin.....thats why the KEEP IT SIMPLE thing works so well for me.

wreckerboy 02-21-2010 06:40 AM

Krewton Call me I will sell ou custom wiring harness or you can use your's but you need to pull it all apart to rewire and you don't have to use there gauge's 419 919 2277 shop or 419 305 6786 cell

Krewton 02-26-2010 07:09 PM

Well, after much debate and backtracking, we are moving forward with carberation on the 4.6L. We went with a 6011 MSD for the distriberless ignition. It makes for a very nice compact setup. We went with a 650 Holley Ultra Avenger, and the sullivan performance intake. I think its going to be a great setup. We are about 4 days into wiring. I will post several picts tomorrow.

One more thing, this week I went to the apolstry shop to get some ideas. I'm thinking of going with black seats, with a dark tan insert. I'm also putting a wood dash into. Currently mocking it up in cardboard. If anyone has some pictures of some two tone seats, or a wood dash, I would love to see them.

Thanks,
Krewton

rustyBob 02-26-2010 07:21 PM

Black seats with dark tan inserts sounds cool but what color are you
choosing for the out side ????
Black with dark tan stripes ????
I used a tan for my seats and went
with a darker tan welting around the outside
of the seats and also used the darker tan on the dash and door panels
but it dosent show up in pictures but it looks good in person...

Krewton 02-26-2010 07:29 PM

I'm looking at a dark crimson read with an antique white stripe.

rustyBob 02-26-2010 07:51 PM

you could have the stripe color match the inserts in the seats....
or is that the plan ?????

crimson red(read) is that a real dark red ??

MaSnaka 02-26-2010 07:55 PM

Krewton,
Check in my gallery, there is a picture of a wood dash. It is a 1" thick piece of cherry wood and it is great looking. I get lots of compliments on it. If you would like to see more pictures of it I will have to break out my camera and shoot them. Let me know if you do, it's no problem. I'm a fan of keeping it simple. Two tone seats are not my cup of tea. I'm not saying they won't look good, just not for me. I think the accent of piping in a different color would be subtle enough. But don't let my opinions tell you how to design your car.

John

Krewton 02-26-2010 07:57 PM

That is a dark red. Wasn't thinking of matching the interior colors to the exterior, just trying to add a little bit of something different to the interior. Just looking for some ideas.
