Default questions about sebring engine, belts, and anything else

Hi All,

I'm looking at buying a CR sebring. Have read every post ever written about CR and the sebrings, and it's a shame the company has had so much trouble... but I still want one.

I found a 1991 titled car, although the listing says 5000, not MX. Haven't had a chance to check the suspension. Any telltales to look for from interior/exterior shots to identify it? Don't have full VIN handy but it's number 55 I believe.

It has a ford 2.8L V6 - what are people's thoughts on these? I don't want to race the car, but I like a good run through the mountains. As long as it's spirited enough since it's a light car I'll be happy - fun is key and I don't need set trees on fire as I go by. Any ideas what a conversion to a standard 302 would cost all in labor/parts (very roughly)? Hopefully I'll get to test drive the car soon.

The car has lap only belts - how easy is it to install a better 3 or 4 point harness? I read another post on the tabs in the frame, but was wondering whether it's possible to install seats with integrated belts.

On the topic of seats, any recommendations? I'm normal build, but the seats in this car are a little old and unsupportive. They are on tracks.

And here's a fun one for you: any recommendations on a rack for the trunk to bungee some luggage to? (I said I wasn't a racer, right?) I'm a little worried about the strength of the fiberglass trunk lid.

Anything I should look for?

Thanks for any advice - am always amazed at how tireless the super-experts on this forum are.

Spring's coming....

Stantale,

The Sebring owners started their own owners group in Yahoo before CR went under.
Go to the link and join their group. They should have all of the information that you need.

Have fun,

Stantale, not knowing the state you reside in, but in case you are not aware, most if not all states have unique inspection and registration requirements for kit cars. Some of which also include mandatory emissions requirements along with documentation. etc

Might want to check these requirements, hopefully, no surprises after the purchase.
