Need a top

Does anyone know if another companies top will fit on the 1991 CR 427

CobraEd 05-14-2010 12:28 PM

excaliber should

.

tcrist 05-14-2010 01:40 PM

You can also check with Emerson, http://www.beyondcobra.com/

top

Thank you for your help. One more question. Being that the car is 4" long and 2" wider is what I worry about. Would a standard top fit from these companies work or do I need one that is made for the 1991 CR 427.

tcrist 05-15-2010 09:27 AM

All of the CR's are the same (or as close as you can get in fiberglass anyway). I dont know about the Excaliber but Emerson is almost a duplicate (at least in appearance) to a CR and IF he has tops they might fit.

CobraEd 05-15-2010 09:30 AM

excaliber is the same exact body as a Classic Roadster

.

tcrist 05-15-2010 11:16 AM

Then it should be exactly the same where Emerson has modified their body a bit. Is Excaliber still in buisness?

Georry, Are you looking for a soft or hard top?

Excaliber 05-15-2010 11:36 AM

I believe the correct spelling is "Excalibur", with a U. With an "e", that's me! :)

It might be just as difficult getting an Excal top as it will be getting a CR top, good luck.

tcrist 05-15-2010 03:11 PM

I thought they might be needing a hat that fits your head:p

jimhurtt 05-25-2010 08:11 PM

Any idea where to get a tonneau cover for 91 CR?

tcrist 05-25-2010 08:35 PM

Jim,
Check out boat places or upholstery shops in your area. They might be able to give you an idea.

i am looking for a fiberglass hard top for a 1967 AC cobra i would appreciate it if you could set me up with web site or something i could purchase one

Don 12-05-2010 11:26 AM

georry......hopefully DV will add his thoughts regarding the top. Thought in a previous Thread , he mentioned the design of the top to attach to the windshield.

Double Venom 12-05-2010 02:11 PM

Emerson's (Bill) top will not fit a CR's anymore. To many changes. Unless of course he still has a pattern for them- and I don't think so?

ExcalibEr's tops certainly wont fit! Unless Ernie has gotten a real large head lately now that he is back on the Mainland! :MECOOL:

ExcalibUr WILL fit if you can find one. They have been out of business for over 20 years, they copied CR's to infinity!

You might check on the ExcalibUr site to see if one exit exists?

Excaliber 12-05-2010 04:39 PM

The Excal tops, by the way, were Hartz cloth. Having owned both a Hartz cloth top and the typical vinyl or naughtie hyde on other cars, I would DEFINITELY pony up the extra cash for the far superior Hartz cloth edition.

,,,then again, you may find yourself just happy to find a top, any top, period! :)

I am also looking for a hardtop for my CR Cobra. I finished the kit over a year ago, and now after driving it for a bit, I think I would prefer a hardtop for roadtrips. I did buy the softtop/ragtop with the kit, and have all the parts, but I did not want to put it on right away as I did not like the idea of putting snaps everywhere. I did start to see how the ragtop would work, and it just seems like it would be alot of force on the pin holes by the door jams, which I worry would crack or break the fiberglass going down the road... anyone have any thoughts on that? I thought about bending the bars a little to reduce the stress. On a side note, I did see a beautiful kit at http://www.v8cobra.com/hardtop.html from across the pond, but doubt that it would work with a CR.

Double Venom 12-29-2010 11:42 AM

As far as I know there is/are NO hardtops for a CR available- WITHOUT modification! Cripe the originals had to be, shall we say Massaged to fit. How ever when done right they were great tops. Of course if you are over 5'8"s and that's stretching it, getting in and out was a major accomplishment!

jbr7723 12-29-2010 12:18 PM

Thanks for the warning DV, I am 5'11" and lets just say a bit barrel chested. Actually now that I think of it, I slide into my cobra by placing the right foot in, grabbing the high back of the seat with right hand then left, place left foot in, and slide down into place... not sure how I might approach it with a top on. Maybe I'll just have to buy a enclosed trailer and have a cockpit cover made. Any suggestions on a cockpit cover for the CR cobra?

There is a place in Brainard, MN that deals with Sunbrella, which is the high end fabric for boats... they made a new cover for my Donzi boat and did a nice job, I could probably have them make one out of sunbrella, with a soft liner, maybe just hook it to the pipes so no drilling was needed.

Thanks as always for your input.

We have a top for Our cars and with a littel work it will fit a CR

Double Venom 01-08-2011 05:09 AM

Hey Bill HOWDY! Long time. Are you talking soft top/hardtop or both? The CR guys have just about given up on a "workable" top!
